What are you trying to use find and replace on -- Opusscript or something in a textbox or button object or the whole publication?
Which version of Windows are you talking about?
Be more specific in how you get the problem -- that will give DW an idea what your problem is, and it will help other users as well.

Searching on text boxes using Opus 4.3 and Windows XP Prof SP2. And it's still crashing.

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry.

I have tried to reproduce this problem using the following procedure:

- Launch Opus Pro 04 (version 04.30)
- Create a blank, new publication
- Select the Text tool and draw a Text object on the page
- Type the word hello into the Text object
- Click Tools > Find & Replace
- Type hello into the Find: field
- Type goodbye into the Replace: field
- Click the Find button. The contents of the Text object should become highlighted
- Click the Replace button. The contents of the Text object should be replaced with the word goodbye

This procedure works without problems on all of our test systems. Could you please try these steps and let me know the outcome? If the procedure works, I can only think that the problem may be related to the quantity of text objects you are trying to replace, but would need to see the publication in question to investigate this. Could you possibly forward your publication .imp file to me at support@digitalworkshop.com and I will be happy to look into this?

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,

Try...

Create text box
type 'hello'
tools-->find&replace
enter 'hello' in find and 'goodbye' in replace
Click replace all
The hello is highlighted.
Click replace all again and it is replaced. (and soa re any other hellos. So far so good.
But. Without changing anything in that find&replace dialogue you then hit replace all a third time, everything freezes caput.

Odd bug but I manged to reproduce it every time I tried.

Leia,

Thank you for this clarification.

I have replicated this issue using your steps and have asked our developers to look into this problem. Many thanks.

Kenlee,

If this is the same issue you have encountered, you should find that clicking on the Find button to find the first matching string, then clicking once on the Replace All button allows you to replace all of the text strings without problems. We will try to ensure that this is fixed in the next Service Release.

Kind regards,

Robin

Identifying and correcting this long-time problem will be great.

It caused me so many problems that I just gave up using Find and Replace.

Hi,

Robin, you wrote some month ago "you should find that clicking on the Find button to find the first matching string, then clicking once on the Replace All button allows you to replace all of the text strings without problems"
In all my publication (approx 50 pages with different chapter and different master page), that doesn't work at all (only some words are replace : when you click once on all the page before applying "find and replace" the results are best but never complete...)... and when i try to apply another time this function.... the system still crash.

Benoit,

Could you possibly send your publication .imp file to support@digitalworkshop.com and state which text strings you are trying to find and replace? If we can reproduce the issue on our test machines, we should be able to identify the cause of this issue and offer a solution.

Many thanks,
