Hi

Have a publication where there is a mouse over trigger that I don't want to happen when the page first loads. What I want to do is to move the mouse so it isn't over the button concerned. I've never used scripting, but from searching the forums, it looks as though you can control the mouse position by scripting. If so, my pages are all 1024 by 768 pixels in size, and I want the mouse to be centred horizontally, and at around 600 pixels down vertically. Is there any script I could include to do this, and if so, what would it look like?

Many thanks

Paul of the past,

I don't know how to do what you ask. Anyone?

I thought of a workaround.
Make a frame... transparent or no border etc. Set its properties to "stop mouseclicks passing through". Center it over your other object which has MO actions. Also in-front of other object. Make frame say 30% larger than object underneath.

Give the frame a Mouse-Exit trigger, with an action to Hide the frame.

So the idea is the user moves the cursor away from the frame area, then the object and actions behind it become 'exposed'.

I didn't have time to look at a scripting solution to this problem, but I did find another possible solution. The example program below shows a real button hidden behind an image of itself (marked 'Dummy' and 'Real' for this demonstration). When the page first appears only the image is visible and this would not have a function. If the user does click it then nothing will happen. When you want the page to show the real button, i.e. not when it first appears, simply add an appropriate trigger to show the real button and hide the image.

Hope that this helps.

Paul

I don't know if this will work or not as I have never used it. See below.

Note: that as of October 27, 2009, this link stilled worked. Graphics in Action is Chris Jones' internet site.
I hope it works,
Leo

The Poster asked:
Any suggestions on how I can locate the mouse in a specific position on a page when the page is shown below?

I'm using pro

==== answer by Chris =====
There aren't any actions or script functions that will let you do this. The subject has come up before, so it's probably already on DW's "wish list" to add such a capability.

Are you trying to get a specific visual effect? Or do you just want to make sure the mouse is over (or not over) a specific object

Dave,
You can download an add-on utility to set the cursor position here.

Cool! How long did you have that one posted? I don't remember that coming up in the other thread on this subject. But then the grey matter has been leaking out of my head and into my hair of late, so I may have just misplaced that memory. :-)

I just posted it.
I must have missed the other thread.
