Hi, just wanted to share a quick one with you - I was working on a project that uses many variables ( both pics and data ) ..and I completed some 50 percent ( made a published test ) ...and to check for stability I took it to a friends place that has 2 machines - one running vista, the other Windows 7.

tested it on Vista - ran like a charm..

However! running it on Windows seven? the mouse went missing! - I could see the mouse over changes on my button selections and through the text input boxes the mouse re- appeared trapped almost as if ( behind ) the inputs - apart from that...... - no where to be seen! - any thoughts?

P.S. - the project is currently still under development under Win XP service pack 3 and runs fine.

A million and one thoughts - most have been posted - this is an old issue.

Several things though;

1. Upgrade Opus to v6.4

2. W7 uses an updated display driver model, but as you imply the test was different machine, it also likely a graphics card issue. Opus 7 is due soon, this might solve the problem but there are other v6 work-arounds.

Thanks for that mate, - it was my first experience with windows 7 and one of my projects - Im a stern XP user - I never even bought Vista ( based apon the problems I read it was giving Opus 6.0 )
As for the 6.4 upgrade...I understood that to be ONLY of use to those that were running Vista as an Os.

while Im at it - what news is there regarding Opus 7? not so much a release date...but any new and interesting features perhaps?

Thanks again for the quick reply.

Regards...

Rick.

Ditto, but W7 is looking to be a fantastic OS. Whether the 6.4 update works is mute, unless there is a really good reason, it's best to always run the latest version. Having spent time trying to fix another user's problem that wouldn't have occurred under 6.4 - I can vouch for this.

Kudos for having an accurate signature though, stops us wasting time :-)

I've checked some Opus 6.4 applications under W7 and they all work with an Nvidia 8x series card.

Out of interest what card was your friend's machine running?

My friend is running the same card as I am... INVIDIA G-FORCE 9800 GT's we both run 3 cards per machine.

Hope this helps.

Hello

If you have not found out the simple solution, I have one for you. I started fighting this problem as soon as my first students got machines with VISTA, and this seems to go on with Win7.

Tell your friend to do as follows (see attachment):

Open Control Panel
Hardware and sound
Mouse
Pointers
Set the scheme to something with colors, like 3D Bronce

Hope this helps

Cheers V,

I think I'll add a another card to the machine at fault and see if that helps. At the moment, it's VGA and DVI monitors running from the same card. This is a known issue under WDDM 1.1.

Jonas, the trick works because it's the modern cursor sets that have been designed different and older versions should be okay. It was discussed before - anti-aliasing or something. It works if you have problems with Opus under Aero, but you can also simply add a fame with custom cursor to publications to solve it for distributed programs.
