Hi,
Somewhere in this forum I read that the new Opus browser plug-in supports Firefox, Mozilla and Opera.
I downloaded the plug-in yesterday from the digital workshop website but after installation only the Internet Explorer was able to play Opus applications.
Now, what is the truth: supports the plug-in Firefox and Mozilla, or not?

Gian-Reto.

The plug-in definitely works in Firefox - I use Firefox exclusively and have an Opus publication running in another tab as I type this message.
How did you download the plug-in? The automatic download process for Internet Explorer does not install anything into Mozilla products
You need to download the iO Plug-in installer and run that.
If you still experience issues check your Mozilla plugins folder and ensure that NPILM500.dll is present. If not the install has failed to find your browser - in which case could you possibly forward details of the browser so we can improve the installer? Thank you.

Hi,

I'm using Firefox 1.0 (german version) on Windows XP Professional.
I'm sorry to say that there is no NPILM500.dll in the plugins folder after running Opus_IO_Setup.exe. I downloaded the installer today (20.11.04) from your website, so it's surely the newest version.

Best regards,
Gian-Reto.

After IO plugin installed manually, NPILM500.dll is not present in Firefox plugin folder.
Firefox still asking for plugin.

Could those people experiencing a problem possibly try out the attached program? It attempts to locate the Firefox plugins directory from available registry information.
  1. Extract the executable from the ZIP file.
  2. Run it (double click). A window will flash up and vanish.
  3. Go to your mail program and paste the clipboard contents (Ctrl+V, or Shift+Ins) into a new message. You should see something like:
    Code:
    Firefox path = C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
    CurrentVersion = 1.0 (en-GB)
    Plugins = C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Plugins
  4. Send the e-mail to support@digitalworkshop.com marked for my attention.

Thank you.

I think we can assume that if it's this much trouble to get Opus working on other browsers that the general users surfing the internet will not bother with all this and our web sites will not be looked at.

A work around of this nature is not really good enough if we intend to get a non IE audience to look at our sites. :cry:

Enquiring Opus users want to know: So is it going to work in other browsers reliably or not? Cant' have people trying to locate their plugins! Most can't even find the "any" key.

I too am doing some web work in Opus and would like to know it will be seen.

As to Firefox, I love it for basic browsing. OTOH, it won't open PDF files, won't send messages (though I can receive) in Outlook Web Access, and a few other things cause me to have to go back to IE for certain tasks.

Please note that the Firefox/Opera/Netscape version of the iO-plugin is only designed to work with web publications created in Opus Presenter 04, Opus Pro 04 or Opus Pro XE 04. If you try to view a web publication created in the older 2.81 versions of Opus, you will simply see a black screen. In fact, this was the reason for the problems originally observed by Gian-Reto (gtheus) and was resolved in a different post: viewtopic.php?p=1329

I would therefore recommend the following procedure:

- Download and install the latest iO-plugin from the following location:

http://www.digitalworkshop.com/OpusPlug ... _Setup.exe

- Once installed, please click on the following link to view my Beat The Pea publication (which was created in Opus Pro XE 04):

http://www.digitalworkshop.com/opuspubl ... ThePea.htm

The publication should launch and display without problems.

If the problem persists, please carry out the steps detailed in Duncan's reply. This should hopefully allow us to identify any specific versions or configurations of Firefox which may be causing problems.

Kind regards,
