I've noticed, since using Opus Pro v4, that if I combine capital letters and numbers in Arial 12 point there is a size discrepancy between the two.

This doesn't seem to be the case in other font sizes.

As I use 12pt quite a lot, this is annoying. Not a show stopper, but irritating all the same.

Does anyone else suffer from this small gripe?

Hi Chris,

If you use "Antialiasing Level-2" the problem is resolved. :)

It only seems to be Level-1.

"Auto" and "None" do not show the problem, but you may not use those settings.

Chris --

I've downloaded and installed 4.21, so I can't comment on the original 4.0 which you may be using. I did not see any difference when I beta tested.

I did a test by creating a Text Object with Arial 12 as the font, white background, black font color. My Text tab Antialising is set for Auto. I've got Arial 12 set as my default, so I use it all the time, now that I've switched to 1024x768 as my default screen size for Chapters.

I typed in all the letters of the alphabet and 1-0 in lower case, then on a second line I did it again in upper case. I see no difference in the height of the upper case letters or the numbers. As you would expect, there is a difference in the height of numbers over lower case letters -- that's the way it is supposed to be and always has been.

I tried different antializing settings and Level 1 does cause the numbers to be shorter than upper case letters, but I had to force Level 1. If you use None, Auto, or Level 2 there is no difference.

Steve and Fred

Thanks for your replies. Steve, I can see that the level of anti-aliasing makes a difference, but the height of the characters are still not quite consistent. It is better, and quite usable though, at level 2.

Fred, I'm using v4.21 as well, but have noticed this since v4.0

Attached is a small jpg to illustrate the effect.

Level 1 round the heights of the text of to an integer amount to reduce the antialiasing as people complained that full antialiasing(Level 2) made the text unreadable. The reason the numbers in Arial 12pt are different is that the height will be something like 10.4 for the numbers and 10.6 for the letters so then rounded the number will be 10 pixels high and the letters 11. So if you want the text to be antialiased and the same size use Level 2.

Hi Chris,

My level-2 antialiasing looks more closer to the same height. Perhaps it may depend on what OS one is using?

This screenshot is done on Win9x OS.

DW: So what happens at publish time? i.e. If a font is embedded, will it appear slightly different on different OS's?
