Post subject: Add to Search Keywords -- something to be aware of
PostPosted: February 24th, 2005, 4:30 am
If you use this marvellous feature, you need to be aware of a slight problem.

1. Highlight a phrase, right-click and select Add to Search Keywords.
2. Open the Page Properties. Look in the Search Keywords panel.
3. Notice the blank line that has been inserted before the keyword that you just added.
4. This is easily removed by deleting it, but doing this means that you have to edit every page to which you Add to Search Keywords.

This might not bother some developers. Unfortunately, the Opus search engine indexes these blank lines,

When you run a search, this results in the first entry in the Select a keyword being blank and highlighted. In the Select a page panel, EVERY page with a blank entry in the keywords appears.

Only one entry shows in the Select a page panel because I remove them as I work, but with about 600 pages, this takes a significant amount of time.

I have 2 questions:

1. Can DW please fix this?
2. Is there a way to disable a blank entry by inserting something into exclude.txt?

Hi Ray,

After replicating the "blank entry", I did some further investigating and found this...

1. Load the pub into the editor, or "revert publication" and then go directly to highlighting a word in a text box and right-clicking and selecting "Add to Search Keywords". For me it will work correctly every time.

2. If however I go to the Page Properties and select the tickbox: "Use these Custom Keywords" so as the entry field is blank, then I will get a blank entry line, as you have described.

If you leave it up to Opus to initially do the automatic setting up of "Use custom keywords" via the "Add to Search Keywords", then the problem does not present itself. Perhaps it's intended to be done this way?

Hope this is of some feedback until DW get the chance to clarify things here.

Hi Steve

I must watch what I do, although I have just completed this major task today :D :D

I have to admit that I am pretty consisten in the way I approach things. Sometimes I need to uncheck the "Use words from text objects on this page", and when I know I am going to set some phrases, I naturally check the "use these custom keywords".

So, I guess the moral is to not check the first and rely on the right-click method.

Thanks for that suggestion
