Is there a simple way to print out the chapter/page structure of an Opus project?

My current programme is divided into many chapters, with a number of named pages in each chapter.

In order to discuss the project with the client, I need them to see this chapter and page list.

Short of re-typing or screen-grabbing it, is there another way?

Thanks, Linda

Linda --

My first thought was to do a Print Screen with your Organizer showing the Chapters and Pages you want revealed. Then Paste to an image editor like PaintShop Pro. You can crop the image to show just what you want. You might even have to take several screen grabs and then paste them together.

What about using Print Publication? You can select how many Pages per printed page, and even include Notes if that's helpful. You'd have a hard copy they can make changes to then also.

OK, so my request to DW would be that the Print Publication option also allow for printing out chapter names.

I'll go with this option for now, but really I just wanted a text list of the chapters and pages that the client could amend in Word.

Thanks, Linda

Hi Linda,

To get this list you can use Snagit 7 from http://www.techsmith.com/.
I attached an example for you on video including the result in a text file.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,

That's really impressive... I hadn't realised how far Snagit had come, as I only have version 5.

Off to upgrade....

You did ALL of that with Snagit? The video as well?

Many thanks, Linda

Hi Linda,

Yes this is really great.
You can choose what part of your directory you want to grab.
So if you open each chapter you can grab on page level.
If you also open the pages or even the frames, then you can grab them too.

For the video I use Camtasia Studio (also from techsmith).

Kind regards

Oscar --

I openned your .exe file to view your content. My AOL Spyware software immediately indicated a Trojan Horse Spyware package had been loaded on my computer and it was suggested I block it. I did, and selected the option to completely delete it.

This maybe just something that one of your software packages does, and it's harmless -- but I can't risk having something running in the background on my main business computer. Thought I'd let you know about this.

Hi Fred,

I suppose it's harmless, but you never know.
I replaced a flash version of the video instead of the exe.

Thanks,

Kind regards,

Oscar,

To make that flash version, did you just re-export your file from Camtasia? Or did you convert from somewhere else?

Did you have any control over the quality of the flash? (Could the file size have been reduced?)

Sorry for all the questions... I'm just so impressed... I'm going to have to buy Camtasia as well as Snagit now!

You don't need any extra software - Opus itself can solve the problem:

Code:
function DumpStructure()
{
   var Info = "";
   var Pub = GetPublication();

   var Chapter = Pub.GetFirstChild();
   while (Chapter)
   {
      Info += Chapter.GetName() + "\n";

      var Page = Chapter.GetFirstChild();
      while (Page)
      {
         Info += "\t" + Page.GetName() + "\n";
         Page = Chapter.GetNextChild(Page);
      }

      Chapter = Pub.GetNextChild(Chapter);
      Info += "\n";
   }

   Debug.trace(Info);
}
DumpStructure();

Add this script to a page and preview it - the structure of your publication will be printed to the debug output window, from which you can copy and paste it.

It could be a useful feature to add to the editor so I'll add it to the wishlist, but for now this script should achieve the desired result.

Hope this helps.

Duncan

Duncan, I get

Error:
Action (24, 0) : Undefined identifier 'DumpStructure'

What bit am I missing?

Have you missed anything when copying the script from the forum?

It should be as easy as:
    Insert a new script object.
    Paste in the whole of the script above.
    Preview the page.

This works for me.

Alternatively, download the file attached below; unzip it into your "Script Templates" folder in the Opus folder and then use the QuickBuild > Script Templates menu item to insert a copy.

I've got you... I wasn't putting it in as a script object, but as a script being run on-show.

All works fine, and the result is just what I was after.

Many thanks, Linda

Ah - you cannot define functions in script objects; which is why it wasn't working. You could just include the body of the function (between the curly braces) and that would work.

Glad to help.
