Is it supposed to be? That seems like a lot to me, so I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my system.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike --

Saw your question, so I re-started my XP Professional computer with 1GB of RAM and ran the Task Manager to see how much memory I'm using just turning the machine on. It comes in at 260MB, so there must be drivers, etc. that are loading with the OS.

I started OPUS 5.5 with no Pub. My PF RAM went to 323MB, so that's about 63MB, which is what you were asking about. My system and OPUS run fine.

Considering all the things OPUS does, I think 63MB is really effecient. RAM memory has never been cheaper, so if you are having thoughts that you need more memory -- buy some.

Hi Fred, thanks very much for testing it out. It puts my mind at rest to know that nothing's wrong. The reason I ever even looked at the amount of resources it was using was because yesterday evening I was having problems with it crashing and stuff like that. I have 512 Mb of Ram, so I think it would be OK. But I had had my laptop on for about 8 hours by that time, so maybe that was it.

I agree with Fred

On my system Opus is using around 66 megs but that is with some heavy bmp backgrounds thrown in.

I note that Microsoft Internet Explorer running in the background uses a hefty 22 megs and iexplore.exe around 21 megs.

As Fred says, memory is cheap nowadays and lots of memory is like a multilane highway in that it allows things to flow quickly.

Cheers
Graham

My system uses 92MB RAM just doing nothing.

This is due to the fact my PC has 4GB RAM, so the system loads more data into the system RAM to make the applacition faster.

So the more RAM your system has, the more it will use up.

Phil.
