I found the following behaviour after pasting a button from a gallery: This button has some simple actions (show-action) which should show another object on a page.

After pasting the button the action still shows the correct text entry on the left "Show button1". But this action has no longer a real connection to the object which should be showed. In the right action window you can see this. No object is checked.

This behaviour occurs regardless if an object with the correct name exists on this page or not.

I can understand that the object "button1" on page 2 is different from the object "button1" on page 2 in a technical way.

But since it is only possible to use actions on objects on the current page anyway, one would expect that "Show button1" works on every page on which this button exists.

I think this is a limitation of the usefulness of components which contain actions. At least some kind of alert would be useful in this case because the problem can not be seen by simply checking the actions, which look correct on first sight.

Hi Tarantoga,

I think you'll find this normal behaviour. Once you move/copy an object from one place to another without its associated object, the link has to be broken. If you don't want the link in your actions to be broken, then copy all the associated objects together in a Frame to the gallery. -- That way you can have frame templates, that can be easily recalled from your gallery. (HELP gives more details about this)

But in addressing your specific situation, there is a way to obtain what you want though -- by using script...
e.g. 'Button1' has a script action: Image_1.Show()

If you copy that 'Button1' to a gallery, then import it to any page, it'd work on any object named 'Image_1'.

I wouldn't recommend doing this in normal practice though, due to possible conflicts of actions if you lose track of things... I'd stick to the former 'frame' method above, when dealing with galleries. ;)

I agree though, it'd be good on an object's action if a tiny cross icon appeared beside broken links. Maybe something for a future version perhaps, but I'm not sure how much this would be needed.

Hi Steve,

many thanks for your reply.

I have tried the frame alternative but it seems that objects which are within a frame container cannot be edited any longer. Since I need to edit the objects (e.g. texts) after pasting the component this does not fit to my needs.

I now have tested to simply group all objects and save the group as a component and this seems to work.

So your idea has helped me to solve this prob though :D
