 Post subject: Replace Font
PostPosted: December 4th, 2004, 2:27 pm
Is there by any chance a problem with Replace Font in 04.21?

I used this consistently when converting 281 pubs to 04. I experienced no problems. One of these pubs exceeded 1000 pages and contained many tens of thousands of text objects. 04 completed this transaction in about 20 minutes.

Over the past couple of days I have tried unsuccessfully to replace a font. It does not work.

THere are 111 pages each with 7 QuickBuild Menu buttons containing text in Times 12 point. First, I attempted to change this to Benguit Bold. I ran the program for just over 4 hours while I was away from the computer. The Replace Font was still running, so I aborted the process, and replaced the imp from a backup. Today I tried again, but this time, thinking that there may have been a problem with Benguit, I decided to change to Verdanna, which I had used successfully many times before. After about 135 minutes I aborted the program again.

My questions are:

1. Is replace font working in 0421?

2. If it is working, is there a problem changing fonts on menu pages produced by QuickBuild?

A comment: when Replace Font is actioned, the user sees no indication that anything is happening. To all intents, the computer seems to be dead. I ran a couple of system resource monitors which showed that about 68% of memory resources were in use. (Nothing else was running.) These showed very little CPU activity, which I thought strange.

It would be nice to see some graphic that indicates when Opus is actually doing something with tasks such as replace font. How about it?

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Can you send a zipped copy of the publication in to our support department and we will take a look. It sounds like this is a complex publication and testing in a simple test version may not show the same issues (if any). Many thanks.

Duncan

The zipped file is 3.3MB. My ISP does not support email attachments of that size, but I could burn a CD and post it.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

As this problem only affects text objects, you would not need to include any image, audio or video resources, and should find that just zipping up the original .imp project file results in a much smaller file size.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Robin

The publication contains only empty pages, except for some text boxes on the menu pages and the text in the Quickbuild menu page buttons. There are no graphics except on the title page, and these are only small. At this stage I have added no video or graphics. Just hundreds of empty pages and Quickbuild menu pages.

I'll try deleting the TP and see what effect that has.

While QuickBuild Create Menu is good, it really needs to have some degree of customisation included: ability to set a default font -- typeface, style, colour, for example. The ability to define the size and colour of the Quick Menu Buttons would be useful, as would the ability to replace "Quickbuild Menu Page" with something more useful.

I have had a look at this and have improved the speed if the function so my test took a few seconds rather than several minutes. This fix should be in the next service release.
