I am having trouble saving video in Opus. I now have several different video samples, one of which (48MB) plays instantaneously on both of my computers and smaller videos that play with great difficulty (loading time = 20secs) on the desktop machine and will not play at all on the laptop machine.

I guess that the different video files are different format (Explorer is little help as it just says MPEG for all the files).

Does anyone know if there is a utility that will reformat MPEG into a suitable type for Opus? I have a current task to persuade some colleagues that Opus is the best solution to a numbe of promotional requirements but currently I am unable to provide the evidence needed.

I could attach the files but as the one that works is 48MB this is probably too large.

I have Nero 6 and Adobe Premiere Pro (I haven't used the latter yet).

I may have to ditch Opus if I cannot sort this issue.

Mpeg1 is the safe format for video playback on just about any post 1990 machine. I suspect a codec problem.
There is a small utility called Codec Finder 5,1 that should be able to identify the video compression. Its Freeware and available at

www.vnunet.com/vnunet/downloads/2128894/codec-finder

It is then a question of establishing whether the codec required is missing from the problematic computer. I'm afraid I have no idea which codec Nero uses.

As an alternative you could simply load the offending video into Premiere(it won't be harmed) and save as or export it in MPEG1 format and try that in your publication.

Let us know how it goes

OK I've just checked the bookmark in my previous post and the download link seems to be broken.
Another similar utility is the unfortunately named GSpot (I kid you not!). Suggest a search for GSpot + Codec and be careful what you click on especially if you are using a company machine!

Regards

Here it is. Also besides G-Spot search for Video Inspector

Thank you,

I have managed to sort the problem using Nero to re-format the files.
