If you thought Windows bugged, then try Opus Pro.

Don't get me wrong, it is an excellent program which can do so many things, but it bugs.... alot... and when you have worked many hours and then find that all your work has been lost forever (!), it is very frustrating.

I am unable to reopen the imp file I was working on, nor can I open the backup.

I saved frequently, but from now on, I shall be saving the imp file under different names EACH TIME and testing that I can open it again ie. mypubv1.imp, mypubv2.imp, mypubv2.imp. Saving it under the same name is NOT ENOUGH.

Maybe others do this already, but if you don't I would strongly reccommend it.

When I open my last project, Opus thinks about it and then does .... nothing. And if I try again, it just closes completely !

The file has become corrupted I guess, somehow, and my effort has been completely fruitless. One consolation I have is that I did publish it to swf format so at least I can look at what I did and maybe the second go will be quicker.

Shame we can't convert back from swf to imp.

Hi David,
Sorry you have had these experiences, and most of us have felt the pain of something similar with various applications, not just Opus.
However, I find Opus Pro 05 quite stable and haven't had a problem opening an imp file for a couple of years, during which time I
have opened thousands of imp files.
A bit more detail on the usual things will give others a guide on how to help you.
Your setup, what you have been doing to cause problems, your style of making pubs, etc.
Reinstalling Opus might help, or trying to open the files on another PC.

The only way to get peace of mind working with ANY application is to back up files on a regular basis.
I didn't do backups on a regular basis until I lost a month's work once, so I know how you feel

Paul

Hello Paul,
Thanks for the reply. I am using the standard system, XP Home with the latest build now, though the problem occured just pre the SR1 release.

The imp file is pretty messy and complex. Nonetheless there was no reason specifically for the problem to open the imp file. It was working ok. See this link. http://david.moxon.free.fr/fullflashmenu.html . The piece was not finished by a long way but it published ok. I saved it and when I came back a few hours later, it just wouldn't open. Tried on another computer and the same problem. It just crashes. Other imps work fine. So I have just started again, this time saving under different names, that way I'll have something to fall back on should the latest imp not open.

Maybe using another program at the same time as Opus caused the problem.
