Hi

I've set up a save button that the viewer can use to save a diagram (text box) with items they've dragged and dropped on to it.

If they navigate from the page without remembering to use the save button, I've set a second trigger using a ticker (timer).

Question is: how often to set the ticker for to autosave yet not overwhelm the user's computer with too frequent saves. Can there be too many saves? Does frequent autosaving have any negative effects?

If not, I might choose an interval of 1 or 2 minutes between autosaves, having this repeat until the viewer leaves the page.

Any ideas are welcome.

Kind Regards,
Stephen

Stephen,

Why not simply add the action to the button that moves them away from the page IF they have not already saved.

Hi Brenden

Unfortunately, there are too many options to leave the page, including Xing out at the top, plus back, next, menu, exit and a resource page. Plus, given the need to consult resources, especially in the beginning, viewers may go back and forth with some frequency until more familiar with these items and instructions.

So, I'm planning to set the ticker for autosave (running all of the save actions, scripts in the stacked and framed save buttons) for every 3 minutes. That way, if they forget to save, they won't lose everything but potentially only their work from up to the last 3 minutes.

Thanks for your ideas.

Kind Regards,

Stephen
