I felt sure that when I published Flex from Opus 04 the script component was about 40kb. Publishing from Opus 05XE it seems my script is now about 80kb - this gives a noticeable delay on dial-up.
Is this really a change or is it publication specific?

If it is so much bigger and I want to use an external script file I just want to be clear...

the script will be downloaded just once for any given visit to the website, not just any given page?

I could put a tiny, blank swf on my homepage which would force the loading of the script but users would not notice the delay because the file was not even meant to be noticed, but when they go through to another web page the swf there would launch quickly because the script would already have downloaded?

Would the script stay in the users cache for later visits to that site?

It is publication specific - there are a number of components to the Flex scripts that are only included if you use those facilities (e.g. slideshows, search)

Yes, provided the SWF's are in the same location on the server, otherwise it might think they are different files.

That would depend on the browser and the website serving the files, but in general, yes.

Thanks for your reply.

Just to confirm then - The external file would not be pub specific and would work whether the pub used special features like slideshows, search or not?
That's why it is so much larger?

thanks again
