Hiya I hope someone can give me a hand.

I am using Illuminatus Opus 2.81, I know its old but its all I can afford. Any way I am making an educational resource for the primary school and I have some .avi files that I want to include in the publication. I have got them stopping, starting pausing etc when I run them on my own computer. When I publish my resource the .avi file are seperate and not included in the .imp file. Is this normal ?
The only way I can get it to work is having the .avi files in the same folder as my published imp file. Also the .avi files only played sound and no picture when I tried them on a different computer.

The resource would be fantastic if I could get the avi files running in the imp and working all the time.

As anyone please got any ideas how to solve my problem. Thank You.

It is accepted practice and almost manditory to use mpeg1 files. They are universal and will play on slower computers. Make them the standard size of mpeg1 which is 320 x 240 for U.S.. You can stretch them in playback if neccessary. Search through this forum and the old one for 'video' and there is tons of info.

In the version of Opus you are using the video files are seperate and cannot be embeded. You have to upgrade to another version for that to happen.

I have just produced a presentation for a client that had a large amount of video in and I didn't want it to be embedded. If it had been embedded the published file would have been a 500MB exe file!!

So I tried to follow the instructions in the help files of how to switch embedded video off.. I got really confused. What I wanted to do was to tell Opus to publish the exe and copy the videos into the same folder... But the problem I found was that the folder had to have the same location on the machine it was running from as the machine I built it on.. so I ended up placing it in the root c: directory...and manually placing the videos there... there must be another easier way to do it... especially as I won't always be there to install it on a clients machine?

With Powerpoint you just need to put the videos into the same folder as the ppt file and it works... How do I get the same effect in Opus? Or do I have to use some script?

On the third page of the publish wizard there is a Settings button. Click that, go to the Options tab, uncheck the Video embedding option.

surely its not that simple...

Your answer isn't actually much help!

I've worked out - eventually... that you need to choose the "publication directory" option

Have I misunderstood what you wanted?

The instructions I gave will do that. Please explain further if I have misunderstood. Thanks.

Hi Craig,

Excuse me for jumping in...

I've been following this thread and Duncan has answered exactly what you have been asking, but after reading your last post, you have now given the clue! :)

I am assuming your goal is using the "Distribution Manager" and you want the video NOT embedded, and obviously since you are using the Resource Manager, you also want to retain the video's original filename -- correct?

When you publish typically (and NOT embed video) the filename will be 00000000.MPG/AVI respectively, unless you use the Resource Manager. Regardless of whether using the "Distribution Manager" or not, is using the original video filename (and not embedding it), the exact issue you are referring to? :?:

Or am I off track?
