Post subject: still can't launch exe file
PostPosted: December 15th, 2005, 12:00 am
Hi
I've followed the instructions but the file can't be launched. Perhaps there is a bug in my Opus version? Don't know. What I know is that I've a sample pub with one page and 2 buttons, of which one is to launch the exe file and it doesn't work in anyway.
Thanks for your time ad tips Stephen.

Best Regards

A. F.

Hi Armindo

When you say you can't launch the (second) .exe using the correctly set up button in the first (main) .exe, are you trying this by actually publishing to a (desktop/experimental) folder? Or, are you testing this in preview mode from within Opus?

The reason I ask is that were you to test in preview mode, you would need to change the pathname to wherever the second .exe is actually located in your computer and would not be able to use SYSTEM_PUBLICATION_DIR.
If you publish to a (desktop/experimental) folder, you can use the system variable, and you would test the actual (main) .exe by clicking on it. In order for the (second) .exe to launch, it would have to be in the same (desktop/experimental) folder as the (main) .exe. If you test burn to a (re-writable?) CD, again, the SYSTEM_PUBLICATION_DIR variable will work as long as the (second) .exe is in the same folder as the (main) .exe.

If this is not the issue, perhaps, it would be helpful to check with DW support about the other issue you've raised-any difficulty with the software copy you have.

Kind Regards,
Stephen

You can use SYSTEM_PUBLICATION_DIR in preview - it points to the same directory as the IMP file (the Opus publication file).

Hi

Yes, sorry about that. The system variable will work in the preview if the (second) .exe is in the same folder as the Opus .imp file. My personal preference is not to place additional files/folders in with the .imp file to avoid any confusion, which as a novice I'm suseptible to. :?

Kind Regards,
Stephen
