The following error message appears when I close down Opus XE 5.5

Quote:
The instruction at "0x008da16c" referenced memory at "0x0351af54". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

The "error" doesn't appear to affect anything, so I'm not too bothered. Just curious.

Roger

I have had this issue several times. Interestingly it only started to happen when I began using a new computer with XP Home SP2.

This message started appearing about 4 months back. It hangs around for a while, before disappearing. Then, out of the blue, it might reappear for several days, before again disappearing.

In my case, it also only appears AFTER I save (thank goodness :D ) and close Opus XE Pro 5.5. I agree that it doesn't appear to be causing any damage.

For the past several months, I've only been working on one pub, so I thought I had a problem with the memory handling of that pub.

When the message first appeared, I "borrowed" some memory testing gear from a friend who runs a computer repair shop. That found nothing wrong with any area of my 2.5GB of RAM. I searched the MS Knowledge Base and found nothing. A Google search drew a blank.

Based on the above, I decided that it must not be an important issue, and have chosen to ignore it.

BTW, it seems to be on vacation at the moment -- hasn't appeared for a few weeks.

HTH

It sounds like a possible corrupt entry in the Registry.

Try clicking the icon to launch Opus.
As soon as you have clicked the Icon hold down the CTRL an ALT key.
(Don't press the key until after you have clicked the Icon.)
You should get an option appear to delete the registry settings; say yes.

Note this will reset Opus to its default settings and will remove any customizations you may have set.

I've done what you suggest, Brenden, and it seems to have done the trick. Both Ray and I will now not have our fears inflamed by the error message - though, as Ray writes, the memory was not affected.

Thanks.

Today I needed to reset the Opus registry key.

The first time I closed Opus after doing so, the error message reappeared after being dormant for several days.

The error, if in fact it is one, doesn't appear to cause problems or do any damage, but it would be nice to know what causes it :?

Hi Ray

FYI Since I followed Brenden's suggestion, the error message has not reappeared when I close Opus. So I'm surprised you're still seeing it.

Regards

Roger
