I am using a .wmv file in Opus Pro 4. My play action works but when I use an action button to pause, the programme locks up. I can duplicate the page and run and pause an .avi file without any problems. I am not using syncronize to end or syncronize to start on any object. This occurs on two completely different computers both of which have Windows Media Player 10 installed under Windows XP. Has anyone experienced this before? Would appreciate any feedback. :(

I'm not expert in this field, but remember encountering a similar problem a long while back. I found a definition similar to this:

Quote:
WMV
Windows Media Video
Microsoft's file format and codec for video. It is designed to work primarily with Microsoft Windows Media Player software on Windows PCs and Windows Mobile smartphones and Pocket PCs, although some other media player software also supports this format.

There are different versions of WMV, and not all media player software supports the newest versions.
(The emphasis is mine.)

I changed format (I think to AVI) and had no problems. Your project might not allow you the same latitude.

Hi Ray
I can and probably will use .avi files instead, but I should try a different version of .wmv first just to see if I can solve the problem with your helpful clue. There are actually 16 different formats available to choose from so one of those might be one I can use.
Thanks for your prompt reply.

Part of the problem is that WMV was developed as a streaming format and does not always behave well in stop start type situations.

Brendon (and Ray)
You have confirmed for me that .wmv files are not what I can use in Opus if I want to use a pause action and I have just realized that Moviemaker2, which is what I was using to create the .wmv files, has as one of its "More Choices" to output what they call DV-AVI. That saves me recapturing all the raw footage again. I would then need to render that DV-AVI file to the specifications I want in another programme as the DV-AVI format is extremely large. I tested such an .avi file this morning and it works just fine.
Thanks very much for the help. :D
