After publishing an experimental Opus file, I double clicked the .exe file of my standalone file. I got a weird popup menu (This is Files Explorer, not Internet Explorer) saying that the program would not run. The popup menu had about six check boxes asking me if I wanted to disable certain functions such as audio, directx, and some other troubleshoot-mode features. I checked the boxes and the .exe file ran in some kind of safe mode.

Ever since then, my computer seems to be running standalone opus files in some kind of safe mode with no directx audio and the "set display size" is not working. Example: A known-working standalone file is suppose to change the display to 800x600 and play mp3 files. Now, it does not change the display size and the mp3 files are silent.

I tried rebooting the computer and running dxdiag. But I can't seem to get my computer back to the way it was before. And I also can't recreate that strange six-check-box popup menu.

The search facility on this forum is very good -- I use it frequently.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The problem is in the registry. I ran "regedit" and searched the registry for "Troubleshooting" and then I set the four values of DisableDirectSound, DisableDirectX, DisableDisplayChange and DisablePreloading to "0." And now everything works fine!
