As there's no delay action available in a timeline, if I want to show an object , then wait 5 seconds, then restart the timeline, do I just set the timeline to play once, then put a "start timeline" command 5 seconds after the object?

Or is there a smarter way?

Linda,

The Time line has no delay action as you would simple put the action later in the time line. Exactly what is it you are trying to do?

A simple step by step of what you want to happen may help find the best solution.

Ok... what I want to do is show three objects, then hide them one after another. Then I want a five second delay, then for the sequence to repeat.

I want to use a timeline, as I'm also using Select Case to click through other events happening on the screen. So I don't want this sequence to be affected by the clickthrough, or to delay it. I've found a timeline to be ideal for this.

Therefore I was trying to find a way of putting a 5 second delay at the end of my timeline before it played again.

I've done this currently by setting it on play once, then adding an action at the end of the timeline that starts the same timeline again. But that only works if I want the sequence to run for ever. If I want the sequence to run only 3 times, say, I'm stuck.

Alternatively I could put the 5 seconds delay at the start, but that means figuring how to trigger it 5 secons early, which is clumsy.

Thanks, Linda

Linda,

Here's one way you could do this. Create a four item slideshow. Make sure the last item is a transparent image. Arrange your images the way you want with delays, transitions, etc. Make sure you have your slideshow set to run continuously. On the last image (the transparent one), set the slide timing to stay on the image for 5 seconds.

Now you will have your three images show/hide as needed with a five second delay. Problem solved?

Smart. That will do for today!

Thanks

Linda --

Have your first Show set at 5 seconds, then set your Hide a few seconds later. Go into the Timeline Properties option and tick Play" and set it for 3 times. When the Timeline reaches its end, it will automatically replay three times.

Fred,

Yes, I'd mentioned this in an earlier post (where I said "Alternatively I could put the 5 seconds delay at the start, but that means figuring how to trigger it 5 seconds early, which is clumsy.")

I think the transparent image idea works more smoothly.... I've now done it with an empty frame.

Thanks for all the suggestions

Linda

Even though you've solved the problem Linda, another solution possibly could be;
Create 5 blank images (eg: black screen.jpg) and add them to the end of your presentation so they show and hide in turn in a sequence that takes 5 seconds before your show repeats itself again.
That way the viewer would be none the wiser and you would achieve your intended timing pattern
Cheers
Graham

Just put a dummy "do nothing" action (anything will do - a Set Variable action or a Show with no object selected for example) at the end to force the timeline to run for the required length of time. That way you can start everything at zero and still know how long the timeline will run for.
