Another animation problem!

I have path animations and various show object actions attached to a button.
I need to be able to stop/reset these animations at will (probably by using another button which replaces the first once the animation is running).

However, I don't seem to be able to stop the animations.
The button I use does everything else I want it to - hides various objects, etc., but it won't stop a path animation!

I notice that on the "Stop Animation" tab that Path Animation is not listed.

Has anyone any ideas on this. please?

Chris

Chris

I can't help you directly, but I know that Steve H knows a lot about starting, pausing and stopping animations along paths.

He's on holidays for about a month, so if you can be patirnt until he returns, he might be able to help you out then.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Thanks, Sentosa.

Anyone else assist on this one, it's fairly urgent...

Just to illucidate further. my first button shows certain static objects, and starts three path animations 10 seconds apart. They run continuously.

My second button is supposed to hide the static objects, and cease (and hide) the running path animations.

It doesn't work, the animations just keep running, and running...

I've tried everything I can think of!

Chris --

I just created a simple animation with several Buttons to Pause, Start, Stop, and Reset an Image Object which moves around on a rectangular Path. It works as advertised, so you are missing something.

I'm going to take a guess you have not correctly selected the Object(s) you want to control. By default, OPUS uses "This Object." I ALWAYS over-ride this and specifically select the exact Object I want to control. Since your animation is running, you've apparently selected the correct Path. That's another mistake people make. They set up everything, but fail to select which Path they want to follow.

Go into the Actions on your Button, and in the "Object" window in the center of the screen, highlight the correct Object you want to Stop or Pause, then click "Apply." Since it's working on my computer, I'm sure it will work on yours.

Thanks Fred - all is as it should be (as you describe).

Basically, my first button makes visible some objects, and also sets in motion a number of Path Animations, separated by 10 second delays.

My second button is designed to hide the objects, and cease/reset the path animations.

If I click the first button, and wait for ALL the animatins to start, THEN I can stop them with a click of the second button.

The problem is, a user may well wish to halt all the outstanding animations for expediency BEFORE they have all started - in effect, to stop those already running, and pre-emptively cancel the remainder before they start, if you see what I mean.

Can this be done? Effectively I am setting a train of events in motion with one button, and wish to readily cancel them all (complete or otherwise) with a click of the second button.

Probably didn't explain myself too well before.

Put the show actions on a timeline (since that is all you are doing in effect by adding delay actions anyway) and start that instead of the separate actions. When you stop the animations, also stop the timeline and any actions that haven't started yet then won't trigger.

I should have thought of that, Duncan!

Thanks.
