I'm designing a presentation for a lecturer at a college about memory. I've gotta show a load of pictures for 60 seconds then they disappear.

How can I make a countdown timer for 60 seconds?

I'm still very new to Opus (about a week!)

Thanks :)

Hi Darryl

Welcome to the group. As you will find, there is almost nothing that Opus cannot do in one way or another :)

There are various ways of adding a timer or a counter. Rather then repeating what I do, and perhaps missing a technique that you would find more useful to you, can I suggest that you try a search? Using appropriate keywords you should find several examples.

If a search is not successful, let us know and I'm sure we can help you.

Could you try putting in all your pictures as a 60 second slideshow? That way you wouldn't have to create a timer, and you could turn the slideshow on/off with a trigger such as a button or a keypress. Just one way of doing it.

Hi Darryl

Sentosa is right. A search will show up a quite a few good hints and leads for you.

BW has also advised a great slideshow method

There is also an excellent timer courtesy of Steve H and you'll find it in scripting lesson 6 and 6a. Lesson 6a basically corrects an error in lesson 6.

Have a look and you'll soon be whacking in a whiz bang timer in your publication.
Cheers
Graham

On the subject of countdown timers, i have tried and failed to make a suitable countdown timer which mirrors the windows clock ( or any other online clock). I have tried a few ways but when counting down from say..10 mins to zero in a pub. the timer always seems to be out of sync with say for instance, an online atomic clock. I have seen the variance up to 15+ seconds. On my pub I have two web browser windows, one of which auto refreshes eevery 10 seconds. I wonder if anyone else has suffered the same problem?

Hi Synergy

I think I read somewhere that the internal clock cycles in computers can vary. If that is the case, it might prove impossible to synch your computer timings. End-users of your pubs might also experience similar issues.

This seems similar to problems with clocks in cars. No matter how often I readjust the clocks, before long they are either slow of fast. In fact, the last time I can remember having a reliable car clock was when the dashboard clock was a mechanical clock that needed to be wound every 28 days. That shows my age, doesn't it? :-)
