I'm not sure to understand correctly the use of the plugin.
When creating an Opus pro XE 5.5 application, I can publish with 4 options, stand alone, plexus plugin standalone, web publication and screen saver.

To my understanding, creating a web application generate a html file and an .ilm file to be read.

the plexus standalone generates a .exe file shorter then the usual stand alone. If the plexus plug in is a web application plugin, how can I use the .exe on a web site?

Im' certainly stupid and the answer certainly clear as source water...

Can anyone help?...

André

Hi Andre

I'm not sure about this, since I haven't used the plugin .exe option, but here's a guess:

the players in Opus, upon publication, take up "overhead" in terms of Mb's, so if you use a regular .exe standalone, it will have its Mb size inflated by the players. If you use the plugin .exe option, it omits the players with their Mb "overhead."

For example, a pub I'm currently developing if published as a standalone .exe has a size of 2.12 Mb, wheras if I publish it as a plugin .exe, it is 315 Kb instead.

However, the person viewing the plugin .exe version who does not already have the plugin installed will need to either download the plugin or find it as a separate file elsewhere. You can check with DW, but I think you may be able to package the plugin set-up along with the main plugin .exe. Of course, adding it like this may assure a path to find it but doesn't save on the total size.

The other difference between the HTML-web version and the plugin .exe versions are that the web one will use a web browser like IE to open, whereas, the plugin .exe one, I think, opens simply standalone in Windows.

Other Forum colleagues with more experience than I can correct my guess, if inaccurate and supplement the answer.

But, hopefully this will help.

Kind Regards,

Hi Andre,

The Plexus Plugin standalone isn't for the web.
That's the reason why it is an exe.

Only the thirth option creates a publication for the web with ilm files and a html file.
You need the plexus plugin to run this web publication.

Hope this helps,

Thanks both. I know do understand but the term used by DW is misused. The Plexus module isn't a plug in but a run-time and much near the use of .ilm data files than that of a plugin. Perhaps the module is the same use when viewing .ilm pages thrught the web.

Just in case you didn't know...the Plexus plug-in only enables a windows computer to see the pages. If you want Mac's to see it also you need to export using Flex.

The Plexus plugin is an ActiveX control that allows Opus publications to be played back over the web.

The stand-alone Plexus powered player is (simplifying greatly for clarity) a window that uses the Plexus plugin to play the publication locally. If Plexus is not already installed it will attempt to download the Plexus player in order to play the publication. If it cannot do that a message is displayed informing the user to use the stand-alone Plexus installer from our website.

I think I'm right in saying then that in order to make an opus presentation that can be published to the web and be seen by both PCs and Macs- it needs to be output as a flash file... so if using video in the publication it wll need to be be used as flash in the original?
