I need to use the effect of magnifying an area.

I've done this in the past by using a frame with a round border, and a larger image moving within the frame.

This time I don't want a round magnified area, but an irregular shaped one of my choice.

So: I was trying to insert the magnified image into a vector instead (hence the question on vector import) but this doesn't work.

Any ideas?
