I've added a picture to my page that is really long and I've added scroll bars to it for vertical scrolling. When I preview the page directly the "thumb" is small and allows me to move it up and down with the mouse. However when I preview another page and navigate to that page - or publish the presentation... The thumb appears the same length as the scroll area?!? I can scroll using a mousewheel or using the arrows on the scroller - but not the thumb. I've tried resizing the picture and no luck. Am I missing something?
The " Proportional Thumb" option is ticked too

Same thing is happening for me on a test I did set up similarly to what you are doing. The only thing I can tell you is to publish without the Proportional Thumb checked. Then you get a nice, small thumb to use on the scrollbar.

I hadn't thought of that!

But having tried it I get the same problem - one long scroll thumb - the same length as the scroller. ARGH!

I'll try reapplying it I think... other than that i don't know quite what to do!?

EDIT:

RANDOM! I tried switching it on and off and reapplying and publishing - and the last one I published worked. it's a bit hit and miss though... BUG ?

We need to add this to the FAQ list. It has come up several times in the past year:

Add your photo/graphic to an Image Object. Now create a Frame Object and insert the Image Object into the Frame. You may have to use the Control (CTRL) key for sizing.

Add Scroll Bars (Vert/Horz/Both) to the FRAME Object. This works everything.

Fred,

That was the first thing I tried, and I got the same problem he was having, so tried placing the scrollbars on the image and got the problem again. The only time I didn't get the problem was when I unchecked the Proportional Thumb checkbox.

At the very least it should be looked at to determine IF it is working properly.

Brian --

I had a Pub with a large Image Object which I wanted to make smaller on the Page, so I used a Scroll Bar (Vertical). It worked fine in Preview, but when I'd Publish, the Thumb would fill the entire space (top to bottom) so you could not scroll.

Brenden (DW) suggested having a full size graphic in an Image Object, then create a Frame (larger than the Image Object) and INSERT the Image Object into the Frame, then use the CTL key to size the FRAME on the Page, and finally, add a Scroll Bar to the Frame.

This work-around has worked everytime for me. You might try by deleting any Objects related to this problem, and start with a new Image and Frame Object, then add the Scroll Bar. I can't image why it would work for me and not for you. Yes, it's a "bug" that I'm sure is on the Fix List. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to fix, since it looks OK in Preview now, and I've had it work correctly on some images. Maybe it has to do with the size of the image, or odd/even number of pixels. It's a nit that only happens when you need a Scroll Bar with a grapic image, which is probably not too often, and this work-around does give you a quick solution in the meantime. Take a look at the Attached sample...
