OS: Xp, Win7
I'm just recommending that a client buy Opus.

I need them to have the same version as me; if he buys Opus Professional XE today, will he get v5.5 Build date Dec 22 2005, or will he need to download any further updates?

got a copy in Sept, it does indicate that build date.
If you got a copy of the extra's and you need then to have it as well, recommend they get it as well
