Post subject: Scores for Radio Buttons??? Help Solve this simple task!
PostPosted: December 18th, 2004, 12:11 am
It is simple, I guess I'm missing a trick!
I have a quiz that has either Tick(check) boxes for multiple answers, and I've also got Radio buttons for other answers.

On the Radio buttons page I have 4 possible answers - I want radio buttons to allow the selection of only one or the other buttons to be selected!
These work perfect - However, its the scoring where problems occur.
When user clicks the correct radio button a score of 1 is added to a variable. When they click any other buttons, they are set to subtract 1 from the varable. This works fine, unless the user decides to click on another incorrect answer button, it subtracts another 1 point etc..., or worse it they keep clicking the correct answer radio it keeps adding 1 to the varable. Does anyone have a way of using radio buttons to score a quiz. Thanks

Hi !

I think I have the right solution for you.

Assign actions to the correct answer button that disable all the other buttons so that the user can't click on them a second time . If he can't click on them the variable will not update.

I've attached a small IMP file so that you can see what I mean.

Hope it helps :D

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried it and it works as you say. BUT... a friend of mine tried it and said what happens if the user changes their mind or accidently clicked the wrong button!!!!!

So if anyone else has other solutions - Much appreciated!

Make this a "two-step" answer process:

First, they click one of your radio buttons. As you said, only one button can be pressed at a time. No need for Disabled feature mentioned before. They can change their mind all they want, until...

Then, they click a Forward/Next Button which checks which radio button is pressed, then goes to the next question.
