Hi Dee
I eventually became so frustrated by the problems of using pdf files that I looked for a
better solution. The problems that concerned me were: (i) clients not having Adobe Reader and not wanting to or being unable to download and install it; and (ii) more serious -- the incompatibility that has over recent years developed between
older versions of the pdf format and current versions of Adobe Reader.
Eventually, I found PDF2EXE (from
http://www.pdf2exe.com/). One version is free, and the pro version isn't that expensive. I've managed successfully with the standard version. The software include various options, with more available in the pro version.
Open PDF2EXE, select a pdf file and convert it to an .exe with the same name. Sure it adds some overhead, and it adds that to each exe file. When publishing to CD, that's not been a problem for me. Before I upload the package to my website, I convert it to a zip file so as to not upset firewalls etc.
I use the standard Launch File action in Opus, and hen I use the Distribution Wizard, I just add these exe files to the distribution package.
PDF2EXE won't suit everyone, but I find it one of the most useful utilities I have.
