Has anyone got the update function to work in V6?

I have attached a simple example as I can't seem to work it out.

Can anyone please help?

Hi

I have never used the update action so am inexperienced here. The help files says in part

"This action allows you to update sections of your publication by replacing pages or chapters with new versions which have been supplied via the internet or CD-Rom. It is used in conjunction with the Create Updates option in the publishing process"

You would need to have something such as an exe or page to update with, and another program or page to update.

Reading the help file, you would need to be careful with the update path.

Reading the help file also, it could be that the update function might only work after publishing. It may not work in preview mode.

I know this does not fix your problem but it may assist you as you try to work this action out.

If I had more time I'd play with it but I don't have any time today (sorry!); hopefully you'll be able to work it out or someone will come along and assist you further.

Good luck

Graham

We've found a problem which will cause this to crash in some circumstances. It is fixed in the upcoming public release. Apologies for the inconvenience.

But Graham is right, the update feature does not work in Preview, only with published files.

Is the update function reliable enough to test and get familiar? Is the 'crash' just a 'blip' or something more serious and corrupting?

I'd like to know if I can make development progress with the current release or should wait unspecified time for an update -- regarding this feature.

Thanks.

Paul, thank you for the info but you could have save us (at least to me anyway) hours and hours of agony trying to make this thing work. I have been trying to create this updates and I have been experiencing this crashes but also the help file is not very clear about this. All this time I was under the impression that I was doing something wrong.

When this "upcoming public release" is due? I may put a hold on this project because I really need to have this function working 100%.
Thank you for all your help all these years!

This hasn't caused my version to crash, but I still can't get the update to work.

Has anyone got an example? Or is there a bug?

We have only been able to identify the issue because it was reported to us. It had not occurred here. We have fixed it within a few hours. I apologise for the inconvenience in the meantime.

The bug only crashes the published publication when you test the Update Action and does not corrupt or break anything. You can prepare the publication for update and test everything else. The final version will be ready for download in the next day or two.

Jezjones29 you will have to give us some more detail on how and what you are trying to do because the Update process definitely works notwithstanding the intermittent problem I've detailed. Please follow the procedure in the help and email support if you're still having problems.

Paul

Thanks for clarifying, Paul.

Or should I say for the update on the update feature, and sched for an update release.

Now I know where to put my attention.
