Hi,

I have installed the trial version under Windows Vista and found some problems with the graphic display.

It seems that the screen refresh does not work properly. Everytime I try to change the size of the working area and sometimes when switching between pages I get strange display problems.

I have attached a screenshot to demonstrate what happens.

Is this a problem that occurs only on my machine? Is a solution available?

BTW: I use the latest Vista-Update and the latest graphic driver.

Thanks in advance for any help.

T,

Hi and thanks for your replies.

Aero is already off an I use a TFT Display with its maximal refresh rate. I do not have this problem with any other software running on this machine. So I think it is a special problem with Opus 6.

Yep I have those same screen artifacts I am using NVIDIA & serioes. It used to be as bad as that but has improved with new drivers from NVIDIA. Don't get me wrong the artifacts are still there just not that bad. It is glaringly bad if you just preview a pub and the screen seemed to have lost memory as to what was there.

Probably you have solved this, but if not.
I got the same problems in Vista.
Bringing back the colordepth from 32 to 16 bits in the graphic display repaired this problem.

succes

Hi Ad and thanks for your help.

I have tried this on my machine and it seems to work (a little bit). Unfortunately I use a lot of high color images in my pubs an get ugly artefacts when swichting to 16 Bit color.

On the other side I think this can olny be a time limited work around until the true cause of this problem is found.

I wonder why nobody of the DW team speaks out about this topic.

Yesterday I have updated my graphics card drivers once more but with not result on the display probs.

BTW it's a Radeon X1300/X1550 series graphics adapter.

Since my trial period is running out I like to buy an update to V6 but I would like it a lot more if I could use it on my machine without these problems.

Well, I like V6, it works fine for me.
I posted a bugreport at Nvidia as I think it's driver-problem. Perhaps in a future driver-release this will be solved. The more people report this bug the better!
Succes with your project.

Regards,

Ad

Hi Ad,

I don't agree to the idea that this is a driver problem. I work regulary with about 15 or 20 applications on my machin. Among these are some authoring and development tools as Flash, SwishMax, Camtasia, Flash Develop, Director, Visual Studio, Expression and some more.

I get this strange problem only with Opus 6. So I think it is an Opus problem rather than a driver problem.

You may be right there. I got my Vistacomputer only last week.
My CS2, Vue Infinite, Cinema4d and Premiere 2.0 pro all seem to operate fine in 32bits. So the Vistadriver works all right for them.

Then it's up to DW then.

Yep, I also experiencing problems with VISTA and Opus v6.0.
I just bought my laptop with VISTA ultimate with 2 Gb RAM and 200 Gb hardrive with the latest NVidia GEForce 8600 with 256 Mb memory.

This is my main computer now and everything else works without glitch, except my Opus v6.0. I do not know what is going on but certainly I wish DW can help us out.

Opus is a great program and never before I have experienced the issues that I am having under VISTA.

Regards
German

I'm sure everything doesn't work considering that most of Adobe and Macromedia (now Adobe) software doesn't work with Vista unless you purchase CS3 which only very recently came out. I have dual boot setup with XP and many applications just don't work under Vista or have problems, even Skype.

But saying that as Vistas user base grows we will need full support with Opus and I hope that DW are looking into this. Can we expect an update soon which will make Opus and publications work better under Vista? Or is the latest release of Opus working better under Vista?

Hey, sorry to hear your problems but in my case everything else works including my recent adquired Adodbe Design Premium Suit CS3. I haven't tested the CS2 on VISTA I must admit.
But going back to the point...Opus v6.0 is definitely behaving irrational, like when I finish publishing, there are no error messages but at the time to run the pub, when you double click on the icon tells you that it can't find the executable, even when the executable is what you have double click, after a lot of search I found out that the ilm accompanying the executable, for some bizarre reason, do not publish with the same name and that is the problem. As soon as I change the ilm name to reflect the executable name, everything runs ok.
This is the first time EVER that this has occurred to me and it is under VISTA.

We've mentioned a website called: http://www.thecounter.com before. It gives you a count, by month and year, of various computer statistics like which Browers, Resolution, Color Depth, and Operating Systems are being used. Check out August 2007. It says 80% (39,203,886 systems in their survey) of the OS are Windows XP. Win 2000 is the second most used OS at 5%, with Win NT third at 5%, then Mac at 4%. Fifteenth on the list is Windows Vista with 0% -- only 32 visitors to the websites which have installed thecounter to keep track of the number of visitors.

I'm sure MicroSoft has sold many copies of Vista. I'm wondering why Vista is getting such a low number of "hits" on thecounter.com? I've recently purchased two new computers, and I specified I wanted Windows XP on both of them. I've been told Vista uses three times as much RAM to run than XP, so even if you buy extra RAM, the OS uses it up. It's better to have 1GB of RAM with XP than 3GB of RAM with Vista.

IMHO I think it will be quite awhile before even a small percentage of mainstream users start using Vista.

The problem with sites that gather statistics online is don't take into account the technical expertise of a computer user or their ability to spend money -- their buying power.
When we sell our pubs, we ask new clients what operating system they will use.
27% of them have stated they will be using our pubs on Vista -- not something I can ignore.
The day I have to start telling clients they can't use a pub on Vista is when I change how I build the pub and what I build it with.

I won't have any choice if I want to stay in business.

Paul
