I have been creating standalone publications for some time and now need to begin publishing to the web.
The standalone version has video clips (mpeg1) that run as expected, however, when I run it from the web, the pages that contain the video clips freeze and I get the Opus logo “please wait program loading”. Is this due to the format of the video clip (mpeg1), if so which format should I be using?

Also I am having difficulty saving and reading the results of the assessments on the web.
In the standalone version the answers are written as a text file to the results folder on the C: drive e.g.
Name < name_input> Date <date_input> Score <assessment_score>.

This then can be read by the trainer accessing the results folder.

I have add the Post web data action to the save button as follows;

URL http// web address/cgi-bin/results.pl
Source is multiple fields, name, date, score.
Destination is none.
When I look in the cgi-bin folder on the web site no data is there?
I have seen on this site that I may have to use some script?
Has anyone any examples?
FYI, I am not using a database.

Hi Robert,

I have written a number of Opus web publications which incorporate video - an example here.

If you want a video to display as soon as your user loads a page then you need to stream it. I convert all video to Flash files (swf or flv format) using ImTOO MPEG Encoder to convert the video files and use Wimpy Wasp to stream them. Both these are modestly priced. There are free programs available which will convert video to swf and which will stream these, but I have never had much success with them

I think you will need to use a script of some description to solve your second problem. I would use PHP scripts to read and manipulate the variables sent using Post Web Data and store the results in a MySQL database.

All of the above files - Opus Publication, multimedia files, documents, a copy of Wimpy Wasp and PHP scripts need to be uploaded to your web space.

Thanks David,

I will investigate your advise further. I have an swf cilp in the project and that runs fine.
