I had cheap one and it was crap. Colours terrible, resolution terrible, but you get what you pay for! I have seen some very good quality ones, but they are normally quite small. Not really suitable for a display in a window.
The one I had would play images, MP3s and video, so you could think about producing a video from Opus.
Why not just having a dual monitor on his machine and an extension video cable. You can get a much more cost effective solution you can get very reasonable 19+" LCD displays...or digital TV with PC input. Then you could do a proper multimedia presentation for them.
