Hello,
I use Opus 5.5.

For one of my clients, I have been exporting the Opus pubs to standalone .exe. It was only reecently that I discovered that a plexus-based standalone is only half the size of a standalone exe. This will make a big difference for my client since he distributes so many different .exe files to his clients.

The problem is that some of his clients will not have internet availability, and when a pub is run on a machine without the plugin, the program attempts to download from the web. Is there anyway I can change this to point to a locally stored plugin installation file rather than the one on the web site?

By the way, when my client tried running a plugin-based exe file, it tried to download the install, but failed, and everytime he clicked cancel, he was stuck in a loop, it just kept popping up the same dialog box.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Oddly, I had a customer who reported a similar problem. They used one of our Plexus programs and every ran fine. But when they tried a different program - it tried to download Plexus and it caused all manor of problems with their PC.

I haven't been able to replicate their problem and all our plexus publication seem to be running okay so I'm at a loss to explain the problem. The bit I don't get is why it started to download Plexus again when it was already installed and they had just used it :-?

As for your issue, could you not simple put the standalone installer on the disc and have them run that?

Mack.

Hi Mack,
That is indeed strange. But you know, I've even had cases when I was prompted to download the latest flash plugin when I had already done so.

Well, I had thought of that, but there are some complications to it, because some customers don't view from the CD - they have icopied them to the software application's directory, and are available from the application's help menu. But what we may have to do is send the plugin install file to all the clients with a warning along the lines of "if you don't install this, future editions of the tutorials will not run".

Thanks for your quick help!
Mike
