Hi,

I have been trying to import some large video files and it seems to have upset Opus.

When I open OPus 6 pro the program starts OK but when on screen there is no page!!!!. All I have is the grey area where the page should be but nothing there.

I feel I might be doing something stupid, but this is giving me grief as the progrma is unusable.

I have tried rebooting, uninstalling the program, reinstalling both the normal Opus 6 program and the version supplied by DW for Vista machines. But no good I have no area to work on. In the Objects column I have (typically) Untitled1 (for publication), Chapter 1, Page 1.

I have tried double clicking on the page icon - zilch!

Can anyone help please as I am now completely stuck!

Many thanks

Martin

This may be a daft idea - but have you double clicked the paged in the tree to load it into the main window?

It looks like you have two computers listed in your profile. One is a laptop. Is this computer on which you are having problems? If so, copy everything to your desktop and see what happens.

I would use the Organizer to access your Video Object and change it to a small video to make sure everything is working, and that the problem is with the size of your video. How big is it anyway?

From your screen grab, it looks like there's something else opened behind OPUS. Try closing everything but OPUS.

Last, but not least, I have my Toolbar customized. On the top horizontal OPUS menu, I selected Tools -> Customize -> Commands -> Window and I drag the last icon ("Reset the scroll position to the default") onto my vertical Toolbar. When you click it, OPUS will automatically center your editing window. Maybe yours is off in space, out of view.

If you are still having problems...there are a couple of things which are worth trying

1 Reset the Opus Registry by:-

Click the shortcut/icon for OPUS, then immediately hold down your ALT and CLT keys until you see a window which asks if you want to RESET the OPUS Registry.
If that does nothing...

2 Reinstall Opus. This will often fix strange behaviour in Opus

Many thanks for your suggestions Mack and Demofred,

I have solved the problem now - by using system restore back to last Friday. After a bit of restoration with resource manager I have now got the system working perfectly again.

This begs the question of how large a video file is too large and also which format I should use.

I have had varying degrees of success with video in Opus - small clips are OK but as soon as I try to use largish files .5Gb say then it starts to create problems.

I don't find the Opus user guide terribly helpful with video formats, I have tried Mpeg1, 2, AVI etc and all seem to suffer as the files get large.

I have a different laptop now (will change profile) a 2.6Gb intel duo with 2Gb memory and also my desktop now has 4Gb memory and twin core AMD +4400 processors so fairly powerful machines.

Many thanks again

Martin

Many thanks Sandy,

I have just uninstalled the version of Opus I was using (Ver 6.0 upgraded to 6.1) and reinstalled using the single installation file from Opus 6.1pro (that they recommend for Vista) and it seems much smoother loading.

Time will tell if it is better in the long term.

I find Opus is my secret weapon whenever I am asked to do something special for a presentation or the web etc it allows me do many things that are impossible or very difficult by any other means - so Iam lost without it.

Many thanks

Martin

Actually there are 11 kinds of people but I cannot mention the third kind on this forum!
