I have just attempted to use two monitors and now my version on Opus won't show the properties dialog!!!
Can anyone please help I have a project that needs completing this weekend!
I have uninstalled the program, undocked the laptop, turned one monitor off, re-sized the screen ?? Nothing seems to work.
What can I do?
Not only do the properties and action boxes not show, but the tools>options dialog also refuses to show!

Anyone?

I think this is a bug in V6.

If I open another dialog and put it off screen on my second monitor, then detach/turn off the second monitor with the program still on the first monitor, the program then crashes.

I think this is why I can't get the properties window to show.

Sorry, but I've re-read your post several times and still am not sure what you are talking about. If it's a laptop, are you saying you have a second monitor which displays the same screen as on the laptop screen? Or, do you have your laptop configured to have two distinct monitors?

Then are you able to have the OPUS Editor on one monitor, and your Preview in the second monitor? Or, are you using the new OPUS feature which allows you to run a Publication using two monitors at the same time?

You mention running another "dialog" and I'm not familar with what you are referring to. OPUS uses "Publications" and "Pages." Are you using multiple windows in separate Chapters?

Do a search on RESET REGISTER and you'll see how you can clear a corrupted register, but if you uninstalled, then re-installed, I'm surprised that didn't clear things. Try a RESET of OPUS.

I use two distinct monitors on my computer system without any problems. I can edit an OPUS Publication on the right monitor, and Preview it on the left monitor. I've successfully used the multiple monitor feature in OPUS v6 where I run a single Publication which displays some Chapter Pages on the right monitor, and other Chapter Pages on the left monitor -- so I don't think there's a "bug" in OPUS. Without knowing it, you may have messed up your laptop, which is causing a problem with OPUS.

Please give us some clearer details of what you mean, and we'll get you help so you can finish your project this weekend.

I thought my post may lead to confusion.

This is what I did:
1. Opened Opus on Laptop
2. Dragged program onto second monitor
3. Created a page, and added a button
4. Waited for properties window to pop up, but it didn't, so I right-clicked on it and selected properties - nothing
5. Went to tools>options - nothing
6. Moved the program back to my laptop
7. Removed/detached second monitor
8. Program crashed, lots of error boxes
9. Restarted PC, and re-opened Opus, but now the properties dialog won't show even on my laptop. It's as if it's put it off-screen? Is there a way to reset the position if this is the case?
10. Repaired, then uninstalled - but still no luck

I just need the properties window to show :-(

Possible I guess, but I don't think so.

It sounds like a possible corrupt entry in the Registry.

Try clicking the icon to launch Opus.
As soon as you have clicked the Icon hold down the CTRL and ALT key.
(Don't press the keys until after you have clicked the Icon.)
You should get an option appear to delete the registry settings; say YES.

Note this will reset Opus to its default settings and will remove any customizations you may have set.

I have no idea what you mean by this? I went to: "C:\Program Files\Opus Pro 6" found the Opus.exe icon, clicked the icon, then pressed Ctrl+Alt but nothing happened?

Ok I have just done the following which is the same I think, but it still doesn't work :-(

Quote:
Once all Opus program folders have been deleted, click Start > Run, type regedit and click OK. Double-click on the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder to display its contents. Double-click on the Software folder to display its contents. Now single-click on the Digital Workshop folder to highlight it and press Delete on the keyboard. Click Yes to confirm the deletion. Now please close the Registry Editor using the X icon in the top-right of the screen.

Uninstall Opus, then presuming you know your way around, search the whole registry for ALL Opus/Digital Workshop references and delete them.
Delete Opus folders in Program files again as well.
Something on your computer is holding the setting somewhere.
Reinstall.

So am I right in thinking it's the reg and only the reg? If so where is this setting in the reg file?
If I knew where it was that would help.
I did a search for Opus and then Digital Workshop, and deleted all entries but still no luck :-(

Reinstall your video driver. -- if that doesn't work use Windows repair or system restore in case one of the menu dll's got trashed somewhere.
I'd probably be looking at a Windows reinstall by now; it's probably a good time to make sure your backups are done off drive.

BEFORE you start to re-install Windows, I'd strongly suggest you do what I suggested earlier in this string. Reset your Register for OPUS.

Let me walk you through this very slowly:

Quote:
1) From your computer's Desktop (that's the screen that comes up when you start the computer), you should have a shortcut/icon for OPUS.

2) Click the shortcut/icon for OPUS, then immediately hold down your ALT and CLT keys until you see a window which asks if you want to RESET the OPUS Registry.

3) Click the YES/OK button.

That's it. Now start OPUS the way you normally would. If you had customized OPUS to have different tools on your Toolbar, you will find OPUS has returned to its default mode. Everything should work like it did when you first installed/used OPUS.

Thank you for your reply, but my copy of XP doesn't do anything when I do that. Any other ideas?

Hi

I would encourage you to try again, even a few times to follow what Fred is suggesting: resetting the registry for Opus. I've found this to be quite helpful for a myriad of issues like you are describing. And, my experience trying to get it to occur is that it takes the right key combination simultaneosly pressed or it won't work at all, and Opus will simply launch.

It's worth a few tries. If it fails, then, I'm afraid, you may be on to stronger remedies, as described in some of the replies.

Kind Regards,

Hi Stephen, I would love to do this but nothing happens. (I can get the properties window to open, but nothing else)
