Hi all, was trying to rotate a vectored line, missed and clicked the project page somewhere, now all I see of the page is a grey and white chequored background, like when you are looking at a picture without any layers.

I can still click and edit objects if I hit the right place, but I cannot see them properly, F4 and F5 work fine, I just cant see to edit them.

What on earth have I done, and how can I get it back?

(I did save, shut down and restart but no joy.)

Many thanks to the first with a resolution to a stupid mistake...

Regards, Kurt

Some things you might try/investigate.

-- in the future, remember Ctrl+Z is our friend.
-- also in retrospect, 'Save As' might have given you more recovery options out of the mess, later either reverting to last saved or Opus autosaved version.
-- what happens when you create a new Chapter and new Page. Is the problem confined to that one old Page?

meanwhile:

You might try working from the organizer view.
-- first check that some Master Page is not used... applying a transparent background. (unlikely)
-- take a look at any and all Frames. Check their 'Fill' properties, and whether any are 'large' and in the forefront. Look for any Frame or Objects that might be 'hidden' at runtime, or 'concealed in editor'.
-- also, if you inadvertently dragged an object into a Frame, it could seem to disappear depending on its settings. (not likely you did that for 'all' objects?)

It's possible something in the Pub got corrupted -- sometimes can create a new Pub and set it up for same layout & size, etc. Then back in the 'errant' Pub, copy all objects from 1 Page and Rt-Clk >> Insert Into... in that new Page.

If the problem's not in Opus, you could try
-- taking Windows back a day or so with System Restore
or
-- Uninstall your Graphics/Display device over in Device Manager, shut-down and reboot. Try Opus again.

You might get DW folks to look at the Pub or Page -- in case home remedies don't work.

Hi Lar_123, thanks for these, unfortunately CTRL+Z didn't work, this was the first thing I tried. Turns out I had somehow done something to the vector, as I created a new page and dragged each object across, as I wanted to understand what I did wrong.

It's fixed, thanks, but I still don't know what I did.

Regards, kurt

Kurt --

I'm not sure this would have fixed your problem, but it's a GREAT feature to install on the Tool Bar (vertical section between the Organizer on the left and the Edit window on the right). Go to OPUS's Tool menu at the top of the page. Select "Customize" then click the "Commands" tab within the window which opens. Find "Window" within the list which then appears. Select the last icon ("Reset the scroll positon to default") and drag it to the Tool Bar where you should release (drop) it.

The icon should now appear where you dropped it. Click OK to close the Customize window. Now to test what this feature does, use both your horizontal and vertical scroll bars to move the Page you were editing WAY off normal. You can even make it impossible to see. Click the new Reset icon and the Page will immediately pop back into it's correct position.

My Pages regularly get pushed left/right/up/down, so this is a super fast way to get back to where I can continue editing.

Hi Kurt,

Used to have this problem on a machine that had an ATI card.

It was anything specific I did that I could work out - it was using Vectors.

Sometimes they were fine at other times, they would cause the page background to become transparent - with the grey / white tiles.

Mack

P.S just seen your profile - the card I had was an X700 mobile chip!

Thanks for all your repies!

My signature is out of date I'm afraid, that is my old work one. I'm waiting until I buy this for myself and then I'll change it.

But I do now use it on a 512MB X1300 though.

Regards, Kurt

Hi 3buns

I have had this same issue. I later found out by accident what I think caused it.

My page had > 60 rectangular vectors, all without stroke, some very small and thin. I accidently resized one of these vectors to 0 thickness and then lost it in the noise of the page. Once i removed the offending vector everything went back to normal including my background.

It also affected my on screen editing view. I almost always had to "fit" or resize page on opening pub

hope it helps
