Hi,
This is an encore.
I encountered a problem with a publication which riddles me. I made a pub which is about 4.8 Gig in volume and consists mostly of video (mpeg1). The dvd on which it is published, runs as a standalone publication. (only from dvd).
I tested it on various machines of different ages running on XPsp2, Xpsp3 and Vistasp1. This worked fine until recently. I got complaints that the pub froze on loading the videofiles. And indeed I found some quite new (Dell)-machines running on XPpro-sp3 on which this actually happened. The pub starts, plays an introduction-soundfile, but freezes on encountering a video. The cpu keeps working on 50% of its capacity and the memory that's used is large (62 Mb).
I tested the videoboard on mpeg1 files, ran a directX diagnostic test, but this all worked fine.
After eliminating the obvious, I started to break down the pub until it was small enough to avoid filecompression while publishing. That worked fine though I had to eliminate some videofiles.
What riddles me is why a relative new machine apparently is not able to work with a compressed publication, while machines 8 years of age seem to have no problem with decompressing this.
Also, it would be awkward to compress a pub not knowing if it's going to run on all machines.
Has anyone met with this problem too?
Regards,
Ad
