Hi

I'm probably missing something simple, but I've not been able to work out how to display a text variable without the user being able to change it on the screen. I'm using Text Input boxes at the moment and placing masks over them with 'Stop mouse clicks passing through' checked, but this is a bit annoying, expecially when displaying text on a button.

Is there a better way (I can't find anything mentioned).

Thanks
Dan

Dan1,

The simple stuff:
Use a Text Object (and not a Text Input object) if you simple want user to read-only. And 'yes' you can display the VALUE of a variable there (to create this simply Right-click and select 'Insert Variable' from the menu).

Button text can also be treated in the same or similar way.

Now if that doesn't quite fit your needs, please say what you're trying to accomplish.

For example others here work to create Quizzes etc., so want to mix things up a bit. Check out this post (or search for similar): viewtopic.php?t=3542&highlight=text+input (if you're logged in, you can download a sample pub)

Thanks mate. I had been looking around with the text box selected rather than the cursor flashing inside it. I thought it must be there somewhere :)

I've pretty much finished the pub I was working on thanks. It interacts with an online db, so reasonably complex. I suppose I sometimes just find any solution and move on. I was looking at language variations, hence decided it was time to get to this sorted properly.

Pub is here if you fancy a gander:

Just sorting UK/US versions now, although the differences will be minor.

Cheers again
Dan

Cheers.

It's odd that this isn't an option in the Text tab of the Properties Window, as it is for the Text Input. Also, if you select the text box and right-click, you can 'Insert from file' whereas if you have the cursor flashing in the text box, you can 'Insert from file' and 'Insert variable'.

It's all a little inconsistent, but hey...

Thanks
Dan
