OPUS v7, in Properties -> Text on the left side of the window, the third item is "Enable Kerning" which I don't see list/explained in the HELP section. Can someone please explain "when" or "why" you would click this option. I don't remember this from previous OPUS versions. TIA

Kerning is to do with the white space between the character pairs, thus letters pairs such as VA fit together better rather than appearing blockly (technical term).

That option is used in conjunction with the options on the font tab to accurately adjust the layout of text. Very much the realm of professional designers I think.

No it's new.

Hope that helps,

Mack

Mack --

Thanks. I'm not sure when I would need to tick (select) this option. By default it is NOT selected, so when would I need to use it? I'm not seeing a difference when I select this kerning option. Somebody MUST have asked for it, otherwise why would DW add it? I hate to be missing something "new and improved." So many of the new v7 features are "WOW" and make a big difference over older versions, but this one...

Hi Fred,

I know what it is and basically what it does but within my area of Opus, it's not something that I especially use. It's a typographical control for allowing exact layout text by controlling white space between character pairs.

You should see a minor difference if you fill a text box with place holder text and switch between the modes. As far as I'm aware the purpose is to make text easier to read or more presentable but occasionally extreme use of kerning creates a useful effect.

However, what I'd expect it to, based on other programs and what it does do - is not the same - but then as I said, not really my area.
