I have a few questions about Opus Pro 7...

1. In the past I have made a presentation in Opus Pro 6 which was published to a single .exe file which resulted in a file size of about 3 MB.
I now have imported the file in Opus Pro 7, did not change the presentation and again published it (with the same settings), which resulted in a 13 MB file size, so more than 4 times larger. It seems that 'file compression' doesn't work well!!!
Well, 3 or 13 MB is not a real problem, but if a Opus Pro 6 publication is 300 MB then this will perhaps result in a 1.2 GB (or more) file...
Is there any explanation for this?

2. When my publication is published as an .exe file, there is also a single ILMOle.dll file. Why is the file not embedded in the .exe file?

3. I use the browser object in my publication which works fine. However, what if new PC's have to be sold in the near future without Internet Expoler installed as standard browser. Will it then continue to work or does it need 'parts' of the IE installation?

Jan

There is no basis to make such wild extrapolations.

I can think of two things that might add to file size upon publishing:
1) I had a problem some time ago... It seems there was a 'quirk' with the way Opus handled a particular situation. I have not seen any similar problem since years ago.

2) OpusPro v7 adds unicode support. It's possible that if you used the options to embed fonts, that you are carrying several extra megabytes for unicode fonts. (I've read somewhere that a unicode font file can be 12 to 15MB... if you were to include all the extended sets (65,300 characters).)

Of course there could be something else going on, so you could email DW support and volunteer to send them your .imp file and resources.

ILMOle.dll file. Why is the file not embedded

Here is one old post related to the topic. There may be others you can find (Search terms: ILMOle DLL ).

There has been some discussion of this before --- from what I recall, Opus uses some 'browser engine' and not the full IE. I'll leave this for others to answer more precisely.

I had wondered how long it would take before this was raised as an issue!

The publishing wizard now offers the choice of compressing the publication - in the past it was always compressed. For some reason, this is off as default and you will get the a 13mb instead of a 1mb executable.

Personally, I think it should be set to compressed by default or at least an option to remember.
