I have this publication page where I would like a mouse over action on a scaled down version of the pic create a zoomed in/enlarged version and on mouse off it zooms back out. I would like the "thumbnail" pic to remain where it is and used as the object for mouse action. I have attached a screenshot of what I have on the page so far.

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry.

You could achieve this by having the large versions of the images set to Initially Hidden (so that they are not visible when the page displays). You now simply need to add a Mouse Over trigger to each of the thumbnail images followed by a Show action which shows the corresponding large image. I would also recommend adding a Mouse Exit trigger to each thumbnail to hide the corresponding image when the mouse is moved away from the thumbnail.

You can now add Zoom transitions to the On Show and On Hide states of the large images and the images should appear with the required effect.

Please find below a link to download an example of this.

Kind regards,

Thanks Robin,

This worked! Is there any way to make the zoom appear to come from the thumbnail picture itself? I have tried the various zoom transitions but they only zoom from corers of the fram occupied by the pic?

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

You could place each of the large images within a frame, then resize this frame so that the corner aligns with the centre of the corresponding thumbnail image. If you now show this frame with a Zoom transition, the large image should emerge from the centre of the thumbnail.

Please find attached a modified version of my previous example which demonstrates this.

Kind regards,

Isn't there a more elegant way to accomplish this? The preferred way (IMHO) would be to use a high-res image and be able to magnify a section either by the user at will, or by pre-programmed area.

This is related to my need for users to have panarama's they can interact more freely with than QTVR allows (and on which topic I am hearing nothing-hard to believe I am the only person on the planet in need of this capability).

Best regards,
Dave

Sounds a bit bladerunner to me... or Minority Report!

Same author, recurring theme! :)

zooming into an image to pick out more detail.. You may have to do a cheat on this.. using video.. of course that depends on you having the software such as after effects - using hotspots in the picture it could load a video that then pans and zooms into the area you need. I'm sure you could do this with a high res image too load this instead of the video..
