Is it possible to make a triangular frame.. or to use a vector as a frame or image placeholder?

maybe in the effects dialogue where it says custom - could I use a png file perhaps?

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry.

It is not currently possible to apply triangular borders to images or other objects. However, if the page background is a solid colour, you could mask out the top-left and top-right corners of the image using vector shapes filled with the same colour as the page.

For example, in the following screenshot, I have aligned two vector squares to the top-left and top-right corners of the image and have then rotated the squares to form a triangle:

If I now set the page background to match the colour of the triangles, the following effect is achieved:

However, the best solution would be to open the original image into a dedicated image-editor (such as Jasc Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop) and use the shape-selection tool (sometimes called a cookie-cutter tool) to produce a triangular section of the image. You should now be able to save this as a PNG image with transparent background and import this into Opus using an image object.

Kind regards,

Opus: v7.04
OS: XP, Vista Home Premium, Win7 Professional 64bit
System: Dell Inspiron 560 Quad Core 2.5Ghz 4Gb RAM, 1Tb HD, HP laptop and various others
Actually it's much easier than Robin suggests...

Simply use the drawing tools in Opus to create a vector triangle (or any other shape you like). Fill the object with magenta (255,0,255) wherever you want your image to show through and then use the Export Vector function to save the ILV file into the Borders subdirectory of your Opus installation.

Next time you go to the Borders tab on the Properties you should find your new border listed and ready to use.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

If you want to do like the picture i have joined, you can use a custom border that you have create in the border directory and that you directly apply to your picture in opus. Outside of the triangle is transparent without need of external program

This has been a very informative thread.
It is always great to see that different users can achieve the same effect in different ways. :)
Shows the versatility of Opus.

I also managed to work out another way to do it

I made a triangular bitmap image - black background, white triangle with gaussian blur and saved it in the alpha channels folder.

I could then use it as an effect applied to an object! Another simple way to do it.

Thanks for the tips on borders too...

but - could it be a wishlist addition? :)
