I've set up a multi-frame.

It's initially hidden.

If I use an action to "show" it, (just with a wipe or fade) nothing happens.

I tried "showing" the first frame instead, but still no joy.

Not having used multi-frames before, am I thinking in the wrong way?

Thanks, Linda

It depends what effect you are after. I am guessing you want something similar to a slideshow, with a Transition effect for each slide.
In this case, instead of Slides you will have a number of individual Frames (as children under the one MultiFrame).

I would set up the MultiFrame object to have no transitions.
Then I would select the MF's single child Frame, and modify its Properties >>> Transitions. Set-up your 'wipe effect' there.
Over in the Organizer Tree, you can then Duplicate that first Frame several times (so that each automatically has the same properties as set-up for the first frame).

You could choose not to do it this way -- and then later set-up any transitions you want. Each frame could even have a different transition.

I would generally set-up only 'On-Show' transitions, just to keep it simple.

Now for operation of the Multiframe.
1) If you want it initially hidden, fine. Set it that way, and you only need to have a 'show action' once. (for the MultiFrame)
2) The first Frame will automatically be displayed whenever the Multiframe is displayed. To 'reveal' the next Frame, you use a MULTIFRAME action (that navigates to the next frame, or to a specific frame number in the set). Any transitions you have placed on the individual frame, should show up properly.

No, transitions on multi-frames should be fine whether they are a property of the frame or part of a show action.

Hmmm. I'm wondering if it's not working as it's in a Flex pub.

It should be simple: I've got a multiframe with 2 child frames.

Each child frame contains one piece of text and an image.

Goal: I want the multiframe initially hidden.

On a trigger, I want the first child frame's text and image to wipe on.

Result: So far I've found:

Put a transition on the first child text and image.

Preview - they appear immediately, with transition, as expected.

However, I don't want them to appear immediately.

So I've hidden the multiframe.

Then, when I show it using a trigger, the child text and image cut on - no transition.

I'll presume it's flex, unless someone can tell me otherwise !

As a workaround, make the first child frame an empty frame. Then on your trigger, go to the next frame. Should achieve the transition then.

Ok, please see attached: this is what I'm trying to do.

Multiframe2 should appear from the "show" trigger"

But it doesn't.

Can someone help?

Thanks, Linda

It's not flash, it's an exclusive issue, but turning this on will trigger a timing problem. I've sent you a solution.

Many thanks - perfect!

Any suggestions on how I might go about learning to script?

Or should I just keep asking you!

Linda

Hi Linda,

Glad it worked.

Any older JavaScript or ActionScript will teach the fundamentals. The forum is a good place to see some basic problems and solutions. I'm also still adding Scribbles to our website, though they did a damn good proof read and clients are more than welcome to email us quick queries directly :-)

Regards,

Mack
