Putting this in a new thread so as to ensure it gets seen.

Managed to get help or figure workarounds on all my issues but one of the simplest still defies. My hyperlinks work fine in preview but do nothing in the published version. I am certain I've used such links in Flex output in the past without a problem, but this just isn't working.

Resourceless imp attached.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Either run them from a web server or tweak the Flash Player security to allow local machine.

1. http://www.macromedia.com/support/docum ... ger04.html

2. Click edit locations and choose a folder

If this is just for my machine, it's no help. The links don't work on any machine I've tried and I need them to work as links do everywhere. I've used that panel before, but I don't care about my machines, it's the rest of the world that needs this to work.

Almost nobody understands that panel and I cannot expect people to have to go through that just to get a link to work.

Am I misunderstanding?

Dave

Changes to the local security settings are just for you.

Run from a web sever and the links will work:

Your publication from above - no tweaks, just published and uploaded. Pop it on the company Intranet.

Works like a hose...

Not a big deal, but go ahead and take it down as this is as yet unpublished material.

I don't recall this roadblock with Flash in the past. If they keep protecting us we'll get to where we can't do much of anything.

Anyway, thanks and I'll hang it off something to test.

Also, I tried to send an email for your site's "Contact Us' function...but the "capcha" verification didn't show (just a red X) and refresh didn't help.

Beeping technology. You don't change a thing and it still stops working. Disabled Capcha.

As they say, all the Health and Safety is because we lack common sense. Whatever to happen to touch the hot oven once - learn your lesson. Touch it twice, well that's just stupid.

I find my interest in Flash/Flex increasing, so have been paying more attention to thread discussions along these lines. Along the way, I found the article below.

Here is a quite long Adobe tech article on Flash Player 8 -- specifically it is a comprehensive explanation of how security provisions of Flash Player have evolved at this stage, and a deep discussion of how it affects both users and content developers. I think this information does not duplicate some of the recently posted links (regarding changing security settings in the Flash Manager to allow localhost server to work on a developer's machine).

I hope you find it useful at some point.

http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/artic ... urity.html
[here is one particular recommendation there]
Quote:
Authors (of Flash content) may wish to be informed immediately whenever a SWF of any version attempts an operation prohibited by the local security rules.

To support this need, a variety of our authoring tools, including Flash 8, install a file called FlashAuthor.cfg that instructs Flash Player to show the warning dialog box for a prohibited operation by any local-with-filesystem SWF, regardless of version. Any user is free to create this file themselves as well.

There is much much more in the write-up. And there is a link at the end to most recent Flash version security briefs, other security info.

Very timely, and thank you, sir.

As of yesterday when I tested Flashpiper and ran a sim on my phone my interest in flash, which had largely been directed towards staying far, far away, was suddenly renewed.

I am going to study this link. I am also looking hard at ruggedized Android tablets for field use. If we can get them to report to an LMS we have something serious here, my friend.

Thanks to the DW team for thinking ahead on this and delivering what has the potential for breaking new ground for Opus and training applications.

Dave
