...operator error?

I need to read from a txt file to a text box from the Windows "Temp" directory in order to have a relative path name for page notes regardless of where the presentation is run.

While there are a couple of ways to do this, the simplest would be to check the "Get from Windows TEMP directory" option in the "Read from Disk File" dialogue.

Isn't working for me. I have the text stored there and if I uncheck the boxt and provide an absolute directory address to the wintemp file, it works fine. If I check the box and leave on the filename as instructed, it doesn't work.

I've tested this on a test pub with nothing but a text box and a "test.txt" file in the temp directory.

Seems fine here with Opus 7.

Writes value with TEMP box ticked and reads value back in with TEMP box ticked.

Don't know if you can read mine from V8 or not, but it's attached. Of course, you'll need to put a test.txt file in the root of the wintemp directory...

In case it doesn't load, I'll reply again with an image of what I have.

No it is not backwardly compatible. But I've got a copy on a spare laptop and your publication works fine.

Must be something else. Are you sure you've got the right location of the TEMP folder. I've moved mine to a ramdisk, but the C:Windows version is still there but not the right path!

Well, where we are is why I posted such a dumb question. There really isn't anything to goof up. Temp is right where it belongs in C:\Windows. I am going to try it on a different machine. This sort of stuff just ruins my day!

Tried it on my laptop. Still doesn't work!

Please return the file I sent you "working." This is driving me nuts!

On the laptop, I put the test.txt filename in the box and check the temp directory option, and it doesn't work. I uncheck it, type in "c:\windows\temp\test.txt" and it works fine.

I cannot make sense of this.

Yeah, you so seem to be suffering the must annoying little niggles that should just work!

Here's a really rubbish example that just writes and reads in Opus 7.0 for you to try.

P.S just saw your last post. I didn't change the file you posted -nothing to send back, just download the posted version if you still need it.

Seems W7 changed things. With your file I had a way to search for the storage location. It isn't C:\windows\temp, it is C:\Users\dmallett.HP\AppData\Local\Temp.

Fascinating.

There IS a system "temp" directory in the windows directory, but obviously not the one Opus is looking for.
