A program I made some time ago will not install on Windows 7 64-bit machines. If I republish it on a computer running Win 7 64-bit, after opening it in Opus 8.03, will this solve the problem?

Not sure I understand. Is it the Opus installer - Tools > Distribution Wizard that doesn't work or is the application failing to run?

Hi Mack

The program won't install. Error message pops up saying it's not compatible with 64-bit OS.

No sorry,

That still doesn't help. Must be Friday.

Opus doesn't create installable publications - it creates standalone executables. Either these get copied to the machine or their get packaged into an installer.

Apologies for the clunky explanation. The program is downloaded from a website as a Setup.exe. When Run is selected in Windows 7 the following message appears: "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x32 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact your software publisher".

The distribution file was originally made on a computer running Windows XP (i.e. 32-bit). So I need a 64-bit version for Windows 7.

Cheers Roger,

In which case the answer is that the installer should work regardless of whether it's created on XP or W7x64 - so I think the problem lies elsewhere.

Here's an example that was created under WXP and installed successfully under W7x64:

http://sandbox.interaktiv.co.uk/setup.zip

Can post the publication somewhere for us to try and or try rebuilding on a different machine?

Regards,

Mack

Thanks for the advice, Mack. I was beginning to think it wasn't a Windows 7 problem (I've encountered download problems with XP and Vista re this app) so will republish and see what happens.

I'm pleased to say the setup file is fine. The guy who stuck it on the website has corrupted it in some way, and needs to go back to the original. Thanks very much for your support, Mack.
