The desktop icon associated with an Opus-built program does not appear on computers running Windows 7. The name of the program shows, together with the standard up-arrow, but there is no image.

The image shows on XP and Vista computers.

A solution to the problem would be much appreciated.

Roger

Not sure I understand.

Are you referring to the imp or the executable of a publication?

Hi Mack

I'm referring to the executable - after the setup file is downloaded and the program installed. As I say, the icon shows up on XP and Vista machines, but Windows 7 seems to make the image disappear.

Nope, still lost :-)

You're using the in-build packager to create a setup.exe and when this installs your publication - the 'shortcut' link on the desktop is missing?

Sorry if I'm not making it clear. While the shortcut link is on the desktop in Windows 7, the accompanying icon (image) does not show up. In XP and Vista I can see the icon.

Hi Roger,

If you created an installer using the Distribution Wizard on the tools menu, then when you install in either W7x86 or W7x64 then desktop short cut icon that is created will display correctly.

You haven't said if the short cut actually runs the file executable.

If you right click on the link it will tell you where it's pointing.

Mack

The shortcut launches the executable without a problem. It's just that the icon does show on the Windows 7 desktop. Guess I'll have to try playing around with it. Many thanks for your help.

Not sure it classified as help :-)

I always recommend Advanced Installer over the Distribution Wizard as a more functional alternative. Also, if you want to send me a link, I'll run the install on one of my W7 machines and see what happens if you like.

Thanks, Mack. In fact, I may have cracked the problem - by remaking the icon. Will let you know.

Oh, you've triggered the old grey matter

You're not using the default Opus icon are you? If you've created your own icon and not included the right formats, the one used for the desktop would be missing under W7.

Am guessing that is your line of thought.

Yes, I am using my own icon - or trying to. As I said, it worked in earlier versions of Windows. Can you explain how to format it for Windows 7 - or is this too much to ask?

Now that I can answer...

You need a program called Axialis IconWorkshop. If you have the source in a suitable format png, jpg, psd, etc (transparent format if necessary) - then sent it to me and I'll build it for you.

Thanks for the offer, Mack. I'll download the trial version to see if it works for me - following which I may well come back to you! Appreciate your time.

IconWorkshop did the trick! Many thanks for pointing me in the Axialis direction.
