I have inserted an mpg video clip that plays just fine but has no sound. Can anyone help? If I play it in win media player or others the sound is fine. Video type is on top - if I use Chroma I get no sound or video. Thanks!!

In fact if I export the work as an exe file then the video is distorted too so maybe I just need to use different settings and recreate the video. What would be the most reliable?

If your running W7 with media centre then the default MPEG codec will play MPEGII files that have MPEG audio.

The answer to your other question is more complex and depends on the video and audience requirements. There are lots of posts on the subject worth exploring.

My summary is normally, MPEG1 is the only codec installed by default across windows machine from XP+. MP4 (H.263) is excellent for modern, well compressed video but requires QuickTime (I use alternative version). With Media Player installer and activated - WMV is suitable for a range of video.

As always, this might help: http://www.live.interaktiv.co.uk/index. ... Itemid=166

I am now more confused. I re-rendered my video and am now using a wmv file which looks greart and has both video and audio. Only problem is that now the mp3's on my next page have stopped working. If I take the video out the mp3's work. I have tried this on 3 different computers but with the same result. Any ideas???

My first thought is that it shouldn't matter. WMV and MP3s do happily coexist in the same publication without issue.

As it doesn't, the common link is either the encoding of the files or an issue with the publication. Have you tried building a simplified clean version?

If you can upload the source and files (or failing example), I'll have a peek and see if anything jumps out.

I think one of the buttons might have been corrupt.

Copied the song button and re-linked and it works fine.

Hi Mack

Thanks so much for your help it does seem fine now. I'm really puzzled because I even recreated the whole project from scratch with exactly the same results. Do you have any clue why it might have behaved so strangely?

I'm afraid my non technical answer is that although Opus is brilliant it is sometimes a four letter word!

Over the years, it has displayed some odd effects - but it's a case of knowing that something should work, eliminating the rational and assuming that Opus has poltergeist.

You sound like you've already been trying most common sense things and that is the best advice I can give in these circumstances.

A few other things that some times help:

1. Turn off incremental publishing > it's on the settings button when publishing

2. Restart the computer.

3. Create a simple test publication from scratch.

4. Sometimes the encoding of an audio file causes problems - swapping to a known good file for testing is useful. Your MP3 song seemed to have no problem but the BBC clips did.

If I might join-in here...

Do you use a wireless keyboard and mouse by any chance on your development system? Are you using 2.4GHz wifi, cordless phones, and baby monitors?

Hi no wireless keyboard or mouse but yes I do have the other wireless devices - wifi and cordless phones, no baby monitor.

Good to eliminate that as a contributor. Something so simple. I only asked because of what I experienced some time ago -- having odd behaviors (oops, behaviours) in fairly simple pubs. In the workspace/editor I was getting Frame objects moved or nested, a few times I created 1-pixel vectors (well 1x1), and other oddities including simple mouse-lag (or latency). So I think my PC's USB bus was overloaded with noisy or errant signal (related to my wireless....). At the same time I had unreliable internet experience, eliminated by switching wifi off and going straight to ethernet.

Glad you're on to a working solution with a fresh-start pub.
