Opus: Version 8.07
OS: Windows XP
System: Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHZ. 3GB RAM
Hi Folks

I wonder if you can help me with the following problem,

I have used OPUS to put together a simple screensaver that is made up of five slides with each slide being displayed on screen for a specified length of time before moving to the next slide. The time delay is specified in a variable that is currently set to 30 seconds. On reaching the 5th slide in the production, the screensaver returns to the first slide and then loops through the sequence again.

I have then published the screensaver, (selecting the data file for each chapter option) and installed it on to the computer by copying it to the folder ‘C:\WINDOWS\system32’ within Windows XP (Professional). I have set it as the current screensaver within Display Properties and set it to appear after 5 minutes.

The problem I have is that the screensaver will run but then stop itself without any involvement from me (i.e. moving the mouse and such like). On testing this problem only seems to occur when the computer has logged on or has been locked by the user.

I have tested the screensaver on a machine that is idle – powered up but is not logged on and the screensaver will appear and works without a problem and will happily loop through the slides for hours on end.

Has anyone experienced either the same or similar issues or any thoughts as to what the problem could be?

Thank you, for any help you can provide.

Hi David,

Not sure how many people use screen savers, but we can try a few things. Here's a link to an Opus screen saver that works on my machine. Try this first.

Hi Mack,

Thanks for your reply, I have tried that and I get the same problem i.e when the machine is logged on the screensaver will start and after a while will stop itself.

Any thoughts

Again, thanks for your help

Hi David,

I think it might be an issue with Opus. I tried it again and this time it did keep stopping. After a while, I realised that my media player, which displays a pop-up on change of tracks seemed to be the cause.

I tried this with a standard Windows screen saver and the problem didn't occur. As there doesn't seem to be anything in the Opus help or any obvious setting beside mouse and keyboard - I'd suggest you give DW an email.

Mack
