Post subject: Opus 4 - Line spacing
PostPosted: November 11th, 2004, 1:17 am
I just installed Opus 04 and imported a project we are working on from Opus Pro 02. The problem is that the paragraph spacing has defaulted to "double" and it seems like I will have to go to every text box on every page and (of which there are many) and slect the text and change the papragraph spacing to single. Any suggestions

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry.

Many changes have been made to the graphics and text engine in Opus Pro 04 and publications imported from older versions of Opus may display text formatting issues and require slight modification.

Principally the old text engine had reached the end of its lifecycle - it no longer allowed us the control we required in order to take the product forwards. It took more effort to do something new (and very minor) with the old text engine than it would to to start again with a more flexible, expandable text engine. As a result, visual discrepancies may arise when older publications are imported into Opus Pro 04, but we have tried to keep this to a minimum and have added additional tools (such as the ability to reduce font sizes throughout the publication using the Replace Font tool) to help users correct any incorrect formatting.

In Opus Pro 2.81, any animations or transitions applied to text objects would convert the text object to a bitmap and often resulted in unacceptable pixellation. This also occured when text objects were inserted into frames. The Opus Pro 04 text engine eliminates these problems and vastly improves the performance of text rendering during transitions and animations.

Finally, the old text engine was very memory-inefficient and would often struggle to keep up with user input in the editor and at runtime. The new text engine is much faster than Opus Pro 2.81 and should eliminate 'lag' during input.

I hope you can understand the necessity of this new text engine. We always try to ensure that new versions of our software are backwards-compatible with older files, but have never guaranteed 100% compatibility and do not recommend importing large near-complete publications into new versions of the software.

To correct text import problems from older publications, you should be able to use the Replace Font utility in the Tools menu to reduce all font sizes by 0.5 points. This should compensate for antialiasing of fonts and allow text to fit within the original text objects. To correct line spacing issues, simply select the affected text object and click Text > Paragraph, then set the Line Spacing to "Single". Text object should now display in the same way as Opus Pro 2.81.

However, if this procedure is too time-consuming, I would recommend completing your project in the original version of Opus Pro, then creating any new publications in Opus Pro 04. As long as you still have the original Opus Pro 2.81 publication file, or accepted the option to backup the publication when you imported it into Pro 04, this should not be a problem.

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,

I've found exactly the same problem with line spacing when importing an older Opus Pro publication into Opus 04 :( .

I imaging we are not alone either.

I tend to 'evolve' my multimedia software publications, not write them from scratch everytime I buy an upgrade of Opus.

To select each text object and set to sibgle line spacing is a massive time-waster.

Is there no way around this???????
Select all then changing line spacing does not seem to work.

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry.

Our developers have incorporated new import functionality into the forthcoming Service Release 3 update which should prevent this 'double-spacing' issue occuring when importing publications from 2.81. We are hoping to release this update before the Christmas holidays.

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,
